Partial cruises?
 

Does anyone know if Cruise companies offer partial cruise, i.e. cruising from an itinerary port?

I'm asking as it would save the price of a flight.

Are you asking if you can just jump on a ship in say, Montego Bay, Jamaica and ride on back to Miami?

Probably not. There is a piece of US legislation whose name I cannot recall that doesn't permit passengers to start in the US and get off in a foreign country, or the reverse.

On top of that, many many ships are sailing completely full anymore. So I don't believe there would be any provision in the rules to let you do what you are asking, if I understand you correctly.

You could always call the cruiseline directly to verify this.

It's the "Jones Act". Only if you miss a flight and have to come into the first port have I seen that exception made, but if it violates the Jones Act you pay hundreds of dollars. They want to sell you a whole vacation, they are not in it just to provide transportation. Maybe a freight or other type company can offer what you need.

The Jones Act states that you cannot get on and off at a US port. If you have to then you pay $200-$300 fine per person.

Cruiselines have a set itinerary, you are charged for the whole thing, and get on & off at the em & de barkation ports. If you are ill or have a death in the family, permission may be given.

I had my TA ask about a stop today and it was denied.

We are booked on a HAL cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Lima Peru. From what I understand the ship continues around S. AMerica, but we're just taking that segment... I just have to figure out how I get from San Francisco to Ft. Lauderdale and then from Lima, home.

It would be an european cruise.

Similar legislation there perhaps?

At least it would tell you who sails from where and you would know which cruiseline to call.

It may well be the case that there are no such laws preventing you from doing what you are asking --- whether or not a cruiseline would sell you a partial package is another story. Good luck with your search. Where is it that you want to go from and to? Just curious.

Hoping onto a transatlantic or Northern Europe cruise in Reykjavik.

If it helps, I went to www.cruisecritic.com and did a "find a cruise" and chose those that have Reykjavic as a port of call. There are currently 10 ships that might be an option.
