Parking in New York?

We're taking the Norwegian Spirit out of New York in January and will be driving to NYC. From their website, it appears we can park at the Port Authority for $180 (monthly rate). Does any one have any experience parking there or can they recommend other parking? We're a little concerned as we can't reserve a parking spot. TIA

I wouldn't recommend bringing a car into the city. Parking is very limited and very expensive. Many of the parking lots are NOT safe. Taxis are readily available and quite inexpensive. I would avoid bringing your car.

The dock lot is secure and yes it is $180/monthly rate. However, are you coming from the north or northeast??

If so, I would suggest Metro North RR, I drive to Poughkeepsi, park for $4/day, free weekends and train into Grand Central. I always pack light so I just take the 42 bus and walk to the docks. Very very scenic ride in as a bonus. :)

We're driving from Toronto so will be coming from the north-west. We were planning on staying outside of NYC the night before and driving in the day of the cruise.

Thanks for your advice.

If you are coming from Toronto, are you going on the NYS Thruway- or Rt. 17?? If you go on the Thruway, exit 18, New Paltz- goes to Poughkeepsi for the Metro North Train. http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/mnr/index.html
