ocho rios beach day??

going on the imagination in august, when we stop in ocho rios my husband and I want to skip the tours, we would like to know if it is possoble to spend our time on the beach? How, where, and the SAFEST way to do it. I have heard that some of the resorts will let you pay a fee to use their facilities? Is this true and any advice on how to do this would be great. thanks

For 5.50 round trip in a taxi, we went to Dunn's river falls (admission $6 per person) you can enjoy climbing the falls and using their beach. Also right where the ship docks you can see a resort right there. On another trip we took a taxi (or walk) and paid to use their beach. It was ok. $20 for us both through the "back door"

Thanks , but is the beach you mentioned at the docking area private or public and how do you access it?

Cruising on RCL a few years back, we did not want to do the ship's tours in Ocho Rios. On our waiter's suggestion (hey, they're there every week!) we did a taxi trip to Dunns River Falls, climbed the falls etc. with a guide, then taxied to Sans Souci. Had a wonderful day there -- just went to reception, explained we wanted to visit for the afternoon, and were shown through to the pool area. Nice chaises, good service, beach right below. We had a memorable day, and would do it again. Only caveat: Sans Souci is now a spa, so I'm not sure if they still accept day visitors. The ship crew might know...

The beach was private (there is a resort fight next to where you dock). Go to the front desk and ask to use the facilities for the day.
