Oceania: Never again

We paid a lot for a penthouse suite, and it's really nice . . . except they are using the Card Room as a kid's playroom, which is right about our suite. So we have all this thudding and noise coming through our celing. I'm sure no one at Oceania knows how loud it is -- I've seen the kids playing, and you would never expect a few kids running around to be so loud in the room below. But they are. So we paid a lot for a penthouse suite that we basically just try to stay out of as much as we can. They are up there playing until 9:30 or 10:00 or even later -- like tonight it's 10:15 pm and they are still at it. We have complained to Oceania two evenings a row and no one cares. So this cruise is lovely and we would probably be booking next year's cruise with them right now . . . but given this situation, we will never book Oceania again. Definitely avoid #8000, but you don't really know which room they'll decide to use this way so you can't really be sure you won't be in the same boat -- paying the same as everyone else for a suite but getting so much less.

Hope you continue to complain, even go up to the card room and complain to the childcare people. Cruise lines that really cater to families and children have dedicated areas for children. They don't just use whatever is vacant at the moment. Perhaps Oceana is not geared for little ones. They should also have mats for soundproofing. On some ships, you can't even hear the kids from outside of their areas.

Also, post on cruisecritic.com where more people will see it, and contact your travel agent and Oceana. I am not usually sympathetic about noise for cabins below pools or above clubs, etc., but in your case, I would even ask for a partial refund if things are not corrected.

Good luck.

I agree with Sassafrass. Speak to the head purser again, and every day, document the issue via email, etc.

I would be very frustrated as well. I would just like to say (after 11cruises on Oceania) that NO they are not geared for children, Alaska is the only destination where families are "encouraged" and they offer any kind of children's program - thus the use of the Card Room. Most people who cruise with Oceania expect a child-free cruise (or with very few children). It is an adult oriented cruise line (except for Alaska where, I think, they feel they must accept families to fill the ship). We have cruised Oceania to Europe, Asia, around the world, and the Caribbean and occasionally had a child or 2 usually with a multi-generational family. No children's program is offered on other world destinations. If you are looking at a cruise elsewhere, do give them another opportunity.

WE have traveled on Oceania several times and have had several Penthouse Suites and they have been wonderful. I must admit I have not even seen children on our cruises on Oceania so don't know if we just lucked out or if your cruise just happened to attract more. So sorry you are having problems.
