Norwegian seems to have cheap prices
 

I have noticed that Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) seems to have some really cheap cruises. Is something wrong with this line?

For example, I just received an email from Legendary Journeys offering an 8 day (7 night) Eastern Caribbean cruise on the NCL Norway with peak summer sailings from $429 (includes port charges); Miami; St. Maarten; St. Thomas; Great Stirrup Cay. That?s about $60 per day.

Also, the same TA advertises an 8 day (7 night) Alaskan cruise from $699 (includes port charges); Vancouver - Canada's Inside Passage ? Ketchikan; Juneau; Sawyer Glacier; Skagway; Wrangell

These prices seem really good (obviously they are for inside cabins). Is something wrong with the NCL ships? If not, am I missing something?

NCL is a good cruise line (IMHO) however their ships can be old (Norway) or rather small. I've cruised the Sky and thought NCL and this ship compared well to RCCL and Celebrity.

They also have Freestyle dining which means you do not get herded like cattle to dinner with thousands of others. That being said, a lot of people don't like it.

No, there is nothing amiss w/NCL.

You don't indicate the ship for the Alaskan cruise but the Norway (Orig. the France) is quite dated &
many cruisers are akin to car owners. I.e., they wish to cruise on the newest ship, or w/one offering the latest activities (rock climbing for example). Ergo, in order to attract passengers, NCL must make the cost attractive.

Frankly, I think it's a snob appeal after cruising RCI and NCL is much maligned. NCL has much to offer and since I don't want to ice skate, climb a wall or play mini golf...I'll stick to a ship that goes to where I want to go and NCL seems to fit the bill and frankly is affordable... Their Free Style Cruising and disembarking at will are much more civilized. I don't judge a cruise ship by their butler service. It will be quiet interesting to see how they will be changing over the crews on some of their latest ships. and I believe the Sky is one that will be "americanized". The all year long cruising from NYC of the NCL Dawn is a brilliant stroke and I expect that other lines will follow their example as they have in adding their own versions of "free style cruising" alternative dining and internet service..

The Sky, Sun, Star, and Dawn are NCL's newer ships and compare favorably with the newer ships of other cruise lines.

BTW considering the state of the travel industry and current economy, those kind of rates (or less) are available on just about every mainstream cruise line for an inside cabin. They're not what I would consider 'really good'.

I've found good rates on most cruise lines, not just the mainstream lines. We booked a Radisson (luxury line) Mediterranean cruise on the brand new "Voyager" for a huge discount and got an upgrade as well! Lots of good deals out there for all cruisers.
