No travel iron?

We're going on the Summit to Alaska and I understand no irons allowed in the cabins for reasons of fire safety. I haven't been on a cruise for several years, but always took my travel iron with me. Their idea of 'nominal charge' for pressing doesn't fit with my budget. Anybody out there got suggestions? Thanks

Anna: irons are very much a fire hazard. Please don't bring one on board. Get a steamer. There are travel steamers for just a few dollars.

By the way, you'll love the Summit and you'll love Alaska. I was on the Summit this past May doing the Hawaii to Vancouver and wished I had stayed on to do an Alaska cruise. I was on the Galaxy Alaska cruise a couple of years ago and loved it.

Anna...I take a small travel, hand held steamer (I think mine is Travel Smart)and it's easy, quick and very convenient! It's inexpensive!
Have a fun cruise!

Hi Anna,

If you do not wish to purchase a small steamer you can use the iron and board in the self-service laundry on the ship.

Paul

This goes to show that Paul has no idea what he is talking about.

Summitt does not have self serve laundry. If anything needs to be done on this ship, it needs to be sent out for a "nominal charge".

Celebrity ships do not have self serve laundry.

I recommend "Downey wrinkle spray". You can buy this at any grocery store and it works great. You just spray it on your clothes and then "stretch your clothes" and the wrinkles go away.

Good luck!

Be careful of the fabric that you spray with "Downy Wrinkle Release"....it will spot silks and other fabric! The best is to just purchase the 'lit hand steamer.....I use mine at home! Then of course we all have "de-wrinkled" our clothes by hanging them in the shower overnight--without the water, of course! Have a great Cruise to Alaska!

I could have sworn the Summit was one of the ships Paul says he has sailed. Maybe he wandered into the ship's laundry by mistake and thought it was self-service? Or, maybe he's just full of it.

Paul: Just as a reminder, to date no Celebrity ship has self-serve laundry.
Since I'll be on the Century next week I'll report back to you all the latest and greatest information about Celebrity, or at least about the Century-class ships.

BTW, does Carnival have self-serve laundry? Do people on Carnival ships hang their laundry to dry out on the balconies?

Thanks everyone. I'll be checking both the Downy Spray AND the little steam sprayer. My travel iron will stay at home on the closet shelf.

If anyone has any other information about the Summit that they can share ... it'll be really apreciated.

Sorry, I had Spirit in my head when I read the post.

Paul
