Nice solution to chair saving issue
 

I'm suprised that I have not seen anything about this yet, perhaps it is something new.

We just got back from a trip on the Carnival Glory and found a wonderful solution to inconsiderate guests saving deck chairs by placing towels on them and then leaving.

In short, they did away with the towels that were available on deck. When you arrive in your cabin you'll find a nice beach towel for each guest with a note that says they will replace it as many times as you like, but ... you'll never get more than one each and, if you don't return it at the end of the cruise you'll be charged $22 per towel.

This simple solution totally solved the problem and even with 3000 passengers on-board, we never had trouble finding a deck chair when we wanted on...including sea days.

This is all fine BUT...

Not everyone places a beach towel on their chair.!!

They place their sandals, reading books, sun glasses, carry bags etc .etc.

You are not obligated to HAVING to place a towel on your chair .

What if you just want to sit and read. So you place your book(s) and sunglasses and sun tan lotion and then you leave to do whatever.!!!!

So how do you solve this!??

This continues to be a major problem in many resort and hotels ,more so when the number of people at the resort outnumber the chairs.

I was on the Princess cruise recently and there were no chair left.

Towels, books,bags and drinks were left on top of the chairs.
Now who is going to move those away.

When it's clear that no owner of these items are in the pool vicinity (if you hang out for a while you can tell where the people in the pool are sitting), I've been known to move the items on top of chairs to the side of the deck, and to move the chairs elsewhere. Why do these people believe that their fare includes private ownerhip of a chair? To me these individuals are just plain old inconsiderate (and greedy, to boot!).

The people are inconsiderate and greedy and self centred ,but they do not have to be either old or young.

You are very brave to be able to sit by the pool and stake out several chairs and then decide that no one is present that has items on a certain chair.

Your remove them at your peril. Better to call security of who ever is suppose to guard and regular the pool area affairs.

Getting into a fight is not my idea of a holiday.

I have seen people get up at 6 AM ..go to the pool... lay some items on a few chairs.... then go back to the room for a shower and then breakfast and then arrive at the pool at about 830 to 9 AM!!

What can one do with these inconsiderate people?!!

Never gotten into a fight yet. You are right though, if there is someone at the pool (keeping peace) it is better to let them remove the stuff. They may refuse though. My feeling is if those people who wake up at 6 to go on an excursion (or whatever) throw stuff on a deck chair and leisurely stroll back to the pool find that their strategy doesn't work, they'll stop it. To make sure they get the point I suppose you could leave a calling card with their things telling them exactly why they have been moved (sign it as Zorro or The Chair Police or something like that). They may even get a chuckle out of it.

I also dislike people putting their items on chairs and then not return for hour later.


Here is what happened poolside at Huatulco Mexico.
This fellow placed items on his chair and his wife's chair as they decide to leave to go somewhere.....

About an hour and a half and they had not yet returned....twenty minutes later ther man returned alone ( perhaps to collect his belongings)....

However, someone took the liberty of removing his items off the chair and his wife's chair and placing them aside some 15 feet.

The elderly fellow told the much younger couple that he wanted his chairand his items back in place and will give them twominutes to Retrieve their items.

The elderly fellow called the poolsside police....they came and told the other couple to return his chair and belonging back.

it seems the fellow had to leave because his wife was sick and he was in the room with her until the Doctor came....finally he came back to the pool to obtain his belongings.

To add insult to injury, the other couple's two minutes were up,so this elderly ( about 80 years old) gentleman grabbed their belonings and threw them all into the pool as we all stood and watched !!!

Now what are you going to do ..hit and 80 year old man who was in the room looking after his sick wife.

Just some food for thought..

I do not know what the solution is..maybe more chairs.

If you have 400 guest then have 400 chairs... ah that is too simple

Wouldn't hit the old geezer but I certainly would press charges for damages of the items he destroyed. I would also complain to the cruiseline about their deck chair policy and continue to raise enough of a stink until they compensated me for the irritation. Why should an 80 year old have preferential treatment over me? I paid for the cruise just like him. In the end I undoubtedly would not use that cruiseline again, as they don't know how to proactively manage such a situation so that it never occured in the first place.

This was in Huatulco and not on a cruise ship.

I really do not know what the solution is.

A cruise ship can hardly have 2500 pool chairs on huge ships like the Grand Princess for example...

Too many people ,not enough chairs.

Once we put towels on chair backs, books on table with chairs leaning against table on the buffet deck and were gone maybe 5 minutes to get our lunch to eat at the the table. When we came back, chairs were gone. Next time one of us will wait or ask someone to watch chairs while we go to get lunch to bring back!
We never really have problems getting chaises but we don't look around the pool. Look up a deck, towards the bow or stern and you'll find them.
