need hotel NYC / trans from LaG/ close to pier?
 

We are arriving into Laguardia and need suggestions for a hotel, that hopefully has a shuttle from LaGuardia to hotel, if there is such a thing: and we would like it somewhere between the airport and the dock, where Norwegian docks, I think its pier 12.
Iam hoping someone on Fodors has done this and can help me. Cruise date is the 12th of May, Norwegian Dawn.

You will find no airport shuttles operated by hotels in Manhattan. You'll have to take a cab or bus; a cab will cost you about $30 to $40 depending on traffic and where you are going.

One way to save money might be to stay at an airport hotel (not so good, but these may have shuttles) and then do the cab into the city on the morning your cruise leaves, but you'll be isolated in a dreary part of Queens and will get no NYC experience.

You could also stay at the Comfort Inn Long Island City, which is maybe a $25 cab ride from the airport but within a block or two of the subway and then just one stop from Midtown. You'd have to pay another $20 or $25 for the cab ride to the pier.

So you know, you should expect to pay about $250 to $300 for a modest hotel room in Midtown. I'd urge you to start looking soon because inexpensive hotels in Manhattan fill up early (most are full already). There's a decent Hilton Garden Inn on 8th Ave. for about $250 a night, but that is, regrettably, typical. If you have any hotel points, this is the time to use them.

In the past the Dawn was at pier 88-92, on 12 Ave.

Are you interested in seeing some NYC sites?? Or just a late arriving flight and cruising the next day?? Stay near the airport, if the latter, some of those hotels do shuttle.

But if you want any NYC touring, I suggest you stay midtown. The ease of walking to your hotel and convenience of location is well worth it. I frequently stay at the Super 8, decent rates for NYC, keep checking they frequently change. Priceline is an option if you only need one bed. Look at midtown east and west.

Thank you for the info. Yes, I do want some of the NYC experience, as we can play around for one day before the cruise. Id like to stay near central park, and there will be four of us.
I will look into super 8, and have already checked out the Holiday inn near the park. If we can see the park and little Italy and experience a bit of atmosphere that would be great. Any othere suggestions would help...Dreaming

Any hotel in the west 50s will put you within fairly easy reach of Central Park by foot, but the truth is it most doesn't matter where you stay as long as you are in Manhattan because the subway makes it cheap and easy to get almost anywhere. I'd counsel you to stay away from hotels in the Financial District because they are inconveniently located to most of the places that interest you. Otherwise, anywhere in Midtown will do. Hotels somewhat closer to the park include the Wellington and the Le Parker Meridien. Beware that hotel rooms in Manhattan are notoriously small and some hotels don't have rooms with 2 beds, though they are certainly available in many places.
