Thanks, fosterag. I'm really only interested in doing the transatlantic crossing to Europe. I live in Italy, and I'd like my mom to visit me. I'm thinking that a cruise across the Atlantic would be less taxing than a flight across the Atlantic for my mom.

I hope I can get prices as favorable as yours going the other way.

Hi,

Do remember that if you come into Southampton, you will need to get to Heathrow. It is possible to get there by public transport - but I suspect it will be easier to get a private car to help you.

Southampton Airport don't fly to Italy - but I think Bournemouth does (1 hour from Southampton).

Anyway if you need help with this part of the trip, I am sure I could help.

What a wonderful thing to think of for your mom!

My mom and I are currently booked on a transatlantic crossing from Ft. Lauderdale to Civitavecchia in April on Celebrity (many ships do this too). The reverse trip occurs in the fall, somewhere in November.

If you're going to book a cruise, do it from the US, which I think gives you more flexibility if you need to cancel, etc.

Enjoy your planning. Sounds like fun. I guess the only headache you'll have is finding one way fares from Italy to the US. And if you have tips on that, I would really appreciate it...

Have your Mother stay with you for the summer and take another repositioning cruise back to the US !!

I'd do that every year, soon as I win the lottery !! As she can stay with you, no need for the lottery.
