NCL Star

Requesting feedback re. NCL Star. Booked cruise but have read some negative comments and we are concerned. Also, how are the shore excursions? Better to do it on your own? Rent a car? All feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I posted a review of my 4/28 Star cruise here:

http://www.cruise-addicts.com/reviews/readreview.php?id=0000001275

Most other recent reviews seem to be positive too. We didn't take any shore excursion but opted to rent a car (except on Maui where we took the NCL shuttle) as we've visited all of the islands before and prefer to do things on our own. Enjoy your cruise!

Any feedback on special occasion packages? Spa services/cost? Thanks for the feedback.

I was on the Star this past spring and absolutely loved it. I have been on 12 cruises and this was the very, very best food I have ever had on a cruise. Almost always ate in the Versailles dining room. Superb!

Stunningly beautiful ship, too.

Yes, we rented a car on every island and did our own thing. Make sure you go to the Pearl Harbor memorial and see the little movie. It will haunt you.

My husband and I were on the 9/1/02 sailling of the NCL Star. And although we enjoyed the ports of call and the experience of being on the seas, NCL's Star and its freestyle cruising were not up to our expectations. Food was average, you don't get to meet a lot of people and you can't give the personal tip to any one person you get to know over the course of the week. This was our 4th cruise...so we have expectations. If you know this going in, you'll be OK. For cruising, I prefer Royal Caribbean.
