NCL and San Juan ?
We will be crusing on the NCL Sky out of San Juan and I have a couple of questions:
1. We are NOT using NCLs air or transfers from the airport. We plan to take a taxi from the airport to the dock on our own. Has anyone done this? What happens when the taxi drops you off ? Is there some obvious spot for you luggage? Do you have to have it with you when you check in? 2. On our last day when we return to San Juan, we plan to take one of their tours (our flight will be leaving late in the afternoon). What happens to our luggage ? Do we have to make arrangements to get it transported to the airport or does it go with us on the bus tour ? 3. Also does anyone know if we would be allowed to bring bottled water onto the ship ? Thanks a lot for any info. |
I don't know about question 1 & 2, but I had the same question #3.
I called NCL and they said, you can carry one on board with you, but none in the luggage. I then asked about cookies and candies. Said that was ok, bcause there was no competion for sales for them. But they do sell bottled water on board. Now, you may call and get a different answer, but that was the one I got a few days ago. |
Hello,
You will be responsible for your own luggage until you get onto the ship and after you disembark from the ship for your tour. The people in Puerto Rico speak Spanish as their main language, but they speak English, too - you probably won't have a problem at the airport, but your taxi driver might not speak perfect English. Ask at the airport for a reputable taxi company, you could also check around and see if there is a good company that does airport transfers, but is separate from the cruise line. Personally, I like to do my own airfare (arriving a day early to avoid problems with flight delays/cancellations) and buy my transfers from the cruise line - the prices are usually very reasonable and someone helps me with my luggage all the way to my stateroom and I don't have to worry about language problems, driving directions, etc. Good luck! Have a great day! Julia Elzie [email protected] |
My only comment is regarding the luggage after the cruise. We did this and the tour operator loaded our luggage onto the van. It wasn't a problem.

I did this also from San Juan. My luggage was at the airport - guarded - and waiting for me. Very easy.

There are several government controlled taxi stations located outside the San Juan airport that will get you a taxi AND write you out a ticket with the rate on it to your destination. You give that to the taxi driver and thats what you pay. It was about $12 to the Princess pier (closer than Old San Juan).

Just a follow up to the water question. I boarded NCL Sea in NYC with about 3 or 4 bottles of water in checked luggage. They did not even check or question..
