Nassau & San Juan

We want to go to a beach in Nassau. Our ship is offering Blackbeards Cay. We do not want to take the ships shore excursion, but would rather take a taxi. We have a group of 10, ages from young to old. What beach would be the best? Is there some where to go parasailing in Nassau? Also has anyone been to the rain forest in San Juan. I hear it is not much fun because it rains (monsoon like) most of the time! (Hence thats why is is called a rain forest) Is it worth the money? Thank you!

Just did the rain forrest last week and would rate it a must do. It did rain but that didn't bother us a bit (were prepared with coverups). It is so beautiful to see the raw nature. The views, the trees, birds and frogs singing. Definitely worthwhile. Sorry, can't comment on Blackbeards. Have fun = )

Blackbeards Cay had mixed reviews on another board. Look into Cable Beach. This would be much cheaper. A lot of people used to go to the Marriott Crystal Palace but I have read where it changed hands. It is either a Wyndam or Radison now.

Can't speak about the rain forest in San Juan - we're more into Fort Morro and shopping. In Nassau, take a taxi to the Marriott on Paradise Island, walk around back to the beach, cruise passengers can use their clothes changing facilities and pool for free and if you slip the pool boy $10-$15, he'll set you up with beach chairs and hotel towels. All of the beaches in Nassau are public, including the one next door to the Marriott - Atlantis.

Peter

pumpkineater, thanks for the tip on Paradise Island. We were hoping to go it on our own rather than excursion. Any good tips for san juan, st thomas or st martin?

Like I said, San Juan is wander thru Old San Juan and the unique shops, maybe take in Fort Morro, check out the handicraft tables around the visitors center to the left as you come out of the cruise terminal in Old San Juan or maybe relax and enjoy some food and drink.

St. Thomas - Coki beach for some sun and average snorkeling. Check out Coral World right next door. We tried scuba there once - $70 apiece for instructions and a one tank dive. You don't need to be certified. If you get off the ship early enough - try St. Johns via Red Hook ferry.

St. Maartens - take a taxi to Orient Beach and have him drop you off at Bikini Beach. Its far enough away from the nudists that you'll only see the fit ones anyway. Take a taxi over to the French side capital Marigot for late lunch and some shopping. Very unique shops down by the marina. Get an early start back to the ship as traffic gets insane around 4:00.

Peter

Definitely Paradise Island-- and the best resort is ATLANTIS or the Sheraton right next door..

And yes, they do offer PARA SAILING at that beach...
