I recently returned form a 11 day cruise on the Lirica. We covered some of the following ports. Cartagena, San Blas, and Cristobal, Panama.

I read the review on this ship in Fodors cruise guide. Yes many things were right on but many things have changed. The price of drinks were not the cheapest of ships of the same class and size. In fact they were way out of line . Mixed drinks like a simple rum and coke $6.75. Needless to say there was not much activity in the public rooms and casino. Now they deduct tips from your onboard account. $12 a day with no account of who gets what portion of that amount. They say it is shared with the ships crew??

Midnight buffet were not as impressives as Fodors stated. One night was just fruit and one night was just lunch meat.. One night was the more traditional buffet but it was nothing compared to other lines.

The ship had a older group of passangers as expected and they made every effort to meet their needs. They still have not prepared a menu that would meet American tastes.Plenty of pasta as expecte but, Frog legs, Catfish are not in the loop for most Americans. The fish selections when offered were good. Steak was nowhere to be found. At least not to our likeing. Thin and dry of unknown cut. Lamb was plentyfull. Bread was nothing more than a hard roll and bread stick
that was laying out hours before dinner..

If you choose to dine topside for lunch, good luck. You are given a large plate and silverware with no tray. After you get some soup and salad there is not much room left. Then when you get to your table there is no salt pepper, musterd etc. You have to leave your table and get your own coffee, water tea.

The ship was very clean and the staff tryed to make everyone happy. In fact we would of liked to have a little more time to talk during dinner. The waiters tryed to become our best friend and never seemed to go away and leave us alone to enjoy our meel.

Entertainment was ok on most nights. The staff tryed to offer poolside activities but some people complained they could not sleep and they cancelled all poolside fun?

Would i go back and cruise with MSC. The answer is no. If you have been on other cruies lines you might find it lacking in most areas. Their discouted price and rebates are made up for, once your onboard. I really think Fodors needs to reexamen their review.
