Mosquitos in Costa Maya/Belize?

We will be in the Western Caribean mid March and what to take the river tubing excursion in Belize and the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins from Costa Maya. Has anyone been on either excursion at this time of the year? What were the mosquito's like? Should we consider Malaria prevention other then DEET? I was on a cruise and did a Mayan Ruin excursion in October, and the mosquito's were quite bad. But that was the rainy season. This time we are taking the kids, and I don't want to take a chance.

I think the mosquitos are a year round issue. Prevention is the best practice to avoid malaria... as we learned so many years ago when attempting to build the Panama Canal.
Products containing DEET is still the strongest defense against mosquitos, just be aware that river tubing will require you to re-apply. Have a great trip! :)

We just got back from a cruise that included Belize, where we did a canopy tour. Although we used a bug spray, we didn't see any mosquitos. Better safe than sorry, though.

Did the cave tubing in Belize two weeks ago and had no Mosquitos.
