Moscow - Domodedovo Airport to Northern Boat River Station

There are 4 of us traveling from the Moscow Airport (Domodedovo) to the Northern River Boat Station to boat our ship for a cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg. The transfer offered by the cruise line is $60/pp ... it is easy and convenient to take the transfer, but it seems a little pricy.

I know that we can take the Aeroexpress to Paveletsky and then Metro to Rechnoy Vokzal (then a 10-20 minute walk) for a lot less -- maybe just as quick? as we arrive in Moscow around 4pm. Our concerns with the Metro is the conjestion at that time of day (we will each have a piece of luggage) and the actual walk from the Metro to the ship.

Should we be looking at a taxi from the airport (any idea as to the cost?) or from Paveletsky?

Moscow port address in English
Northern River Boat Station Leningradsky Prospekt, Khimkinskoye

Moscow port address in Russian (to show to taxi driver)
Северный Речной Вокзал Ленинградский Проспект СтанцияМетро – Речной Вокзал

It is 10 miles (beeline) from Moscow's center, so driving time to the center will be one hour or more. The airport Domodedovo is on the opposite side of the city and beeline distance is over 40 miles - at least two hours driving time, easily more.

A taxi will cost around 2,000 rub - $70. This is still inexpensive compared to 4x$60=$240. However, taxi drivers like to cheat, so negotiate a fixed fare before you board the taxi (there are dispatchers in the terminal building). Also inquire about a limo service (sorry, can't help with that).

You can take public transportation, but first you have to take the Aeroexpress train to Paveletsky station, then change to the Metro. Do not get confused: The Airport has no Metro Station. The Metro Station which is named Domodedovskaya is on the street that leads to Domodedovo town and NOT close to the airport.

However, once you have boarded the Metro at Paveletsky station, it runs through to the Northern Port.
The nearest Metro station is РЕЧНОЙ ВОКЗАЛ (Rechnoy Vokzal), which is almost mile from the port. The way to the port includes many stairs. You should take a taxi from the Metro station to the port.

Total riding time will be around two hours. The fare will be very cheap.

Be aware that it is your responsibility to be on the ship on time, if you do NOT book the cruise company's transfer. Before I go on a cruise, I always stay overnight in case there is a serious flight delay or a heavy traffic congestion or an accident etc.

No problem to take the Metro - if you can carry your bags.

Is there a big benefit by taking the Aeroexpress to Paveletsky and taking a taxi from there? Savings of time and/or $$$?

No, the hard part for the taxi is between Paveletsky and the port - you have to drive across the whole metropolis. Metro will be faster and more reliable.

We are also taking this trip and this is great information. You recommand taking the Aeroexpress to Palveletsky Station and then taking a taxi from there to the Northern River Boat Station.
1) What type of transportation is the Aeroexpress? a bus?
2) How much would the taxi fare be the Palveletsky Station to the N. River Boat Stataion? and how long would the take?
