You will absolutely need cash to buy something where they do not take CC and/or if you are buying something little.

On the ship -ATM's- depends on the ship you are taking as does the casino - check with the Cruise Company.

Extra $$$ are needed for porters, taxis and maybe bar personnel and tips here & there (seems like everywhere after awhile) so bring lots of $ bills.

I have not seen ATMs on most of the cruise ships - in fact they encourage you to put everything on board on your room card, since you will tend to spend more that way. However, there are ATMs in most of the ports. Sometimes you can put chips in the casino on a credit card and then cash them in for cash money. You will probably not need much cash except for shore excursions since they won't even take it on board, but I usually carry about $100 for incidentals.

On cruise ships, most ALL have an ATM machine in the casino, high fees usually. If you are touring in ports, tipping will require cash as well as small shopping purchases etc.

I've seen too many times that the only ATM on board does not work due to problems with the machine or the satellite link required to operate it.

Plus the ATM fees are usually high. We always take travelers checks which the Pursers Desk will be happy to cash for you.

That way you have plenty of cash available, its safe if lost or stolen, and if you don't need it, its simple to bring home and put back in the bank.

There is a Wells Fargo bank (and ATM) on the main street in Skagway.
