Money for Mexico?

We are cruising to Mexico out of LAX in March. Should we take pesos? Or is American money pretty much accepted?

All shops, etc. will gladly take U.S. dollars. We've never had a problem. In fact, they prefer it.

Another tip is to ask for your change in U.S. currency.

Finally, if you feel you must use Pesos, get it in the U.S. and avoid currency exchanges in Mexican port areas. While some are honest, there are those that give less than they should as an exchange rate.

Often you will get your change in Pesos. They donot have to give you back in dollars, that is a favour if they do.
If you pay in dollars, the exchange rate willnot be in your favour.
(because those people will have to change it into dollars and pay charges for it).

Pay in dollars and graciously accept the change in pesos. Then you can leave the pesos as tips or gifts when you want and be happy.
