millennium;now i'm worried

I have cruised on RCL, NCL(yuk) and a Greek line.Researched a ship for my 25th anniversery. Two other couples will go also. We have booked the Millennium for a Carribbean cruise. Now I keep reading not so good reviews of the ship and am worried that I have steered them wrong. We have gone on NCl's 4 day cruise 3 times. The last being March of 2001. It was awful. The open dining was a farce. They took reservations so you had to wait if you didn't have one. My in-laws have cruised on Celebity 2 times and loved it.We just like good service and food. Should we change to another ship? We have insurance.

Most "insurances" won't let you out of your booking due to "changing your mind" if you are within 60 days of sailing. If you are more then 60 or so days out, you can often cancel without penalty from the cruiseline.

I personally didn't like my Millie experience and will not sail her again but others have raved about her as a ship.

Sailed the Millennium in October 2000 on its Mediterranean itinerary. Had a very good time. Enjoyed the ship a great deal. Go and have fun. The more you worry, the more you will look for the negatives when on board. No ship is perfect, but people look to have a bad time in some instances. E-mail me with any specific questions.

I've read all those reviews too, but
for every bad review there is a good one. Did you read the one that had the two men having a fight on the buffet line, tables breaking, etc. thus ruining the cruise (& he wasn't even in the fight). Did it really happen, who knows?

I personally know three people who were on the 5/10 Millie & they all said it was great. Two are retirement age woman(my Mom & Aunt who wouldn't lie to me) & the other a friend(mid 30's honeymooner). Only great things to say. Fabulous food, terrific shows, great service, friendly staff to the point that they knew passengers names within a day (& I mean the pursers staff & cruise directors staff). Unfortunately, there were chairhogs, but they are on every cruise & wouldn't ruin my good time.

I read it & toss it because I prefer to make my own judgements. My DH & I have been on Celebrity once before & it was the best cruise we have ever had. There have been about 15 other cruises between then & now (on Norwegian, Carnival, RCCL), so I'm excited to be going back on Celebrity.

Cina:
My partner & I were on the Millenium 1/20/02, and we had a great time. The shipis beatuiful, and the food is very good.

I agree with one of the previous posters that some people liveto complain. I am an avid traveler, and go on vacation at least 45 days per yr. I can't imagine those people that were on the Millie that say they had the worsttimeof their lives - that's impossible. The Millie was rated the top large ship in Conde Nasts Traveler Magazine - and they are known for being a critical travel magazine. Don't obsess with the negative reviews - focus on the positive. Enjoy.

My husband and I went on this ship a little over a year ago. We loved it! It was a beautiful ship, the service was wonderful and food was fantastic! Do not worry about what others say. You will have a great time!!

Cina-went on the Millie this past Nov and hated it--- will never go on it again...Have been cruising for over 25 years..and had been on 3 other Celebrity cruises==LOVE Celebrity....

Do not normally "complain" and am "not looking for negatives"--but ship is way too big for the service it is SUPPOSED to give--Dining room is 2 levels and 3rd (bottom level) is the kitchen--takes forever to get hot food--food is medicore at best and not up to regular Celebrity standards....

When we went, there was a problem with sewage smells throughout ship-read later posts (after I took the cruise--my mistake not to read prior to cruise) that said ship had this problem previously...and no, I didn't have a cheap cabin--was on Panorama deck with a balcony.....

best food on ship was lunch in the spa dining area--

Olympic dining was overpiced and not worth it--food in some instances was better in the main dining room.....

Pool area is FABULOUS--and entertainment is GREAT!!

Would I take Celebrity again---YES!

Would I reccommend Millenniem--NO!!

We also had the worse service on Millennium. Our food was not prepared properly and getting replacements was impossible.

We had previously liked Celebrity but this was our worst cruise.

We had an aft cabin and it was a constant vibration.

My husband and I were on the Millenium for their 5/10/02 cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. I appear to have had a different experience than some others that have sailed on this ship. We had a sky suite and it was fine. Could have use some more hanging space but because it was a handicapped designated room the space was utilized differently - not really a problem. We had a butler that couldn't have been more helpful. Showed up each day with tea, etc and again a little later with hors d'oeuvres. Cabin staff was also very nice and took good care of us. We had main seating and had the nicest wait staff - in fact they received a better tip than recommended because of their good service and we were on the upper level of the restaurant. Never once was the food cold or wrong. We ate there every night but two - once in our cabin and once in the Olympic - that was outstanding. I found the overall crew to be polite and helpful. I had only two real complaints: 1 - that too many of my fellow passengers treated the staff in a fairly rude manner leaving me to wonder if they do that at home - forgetting basic courtesy and manners. 2 - the ship was just too large for our taste. The last two days were at sea - which we thought would be fun were in fact very crowded and too much. We also felt the vibration some others have mentioned two nights at dinner. But it seemed to dissipate. We won't sail Celebrity again, but only because it's too large and too many people.
