Med. Cruise late October?
Since now we are on a waiting list for Sept. I have seen an itineray I like only it departs 29 October. It is the the Greeks Islands, Venice, Naples Turkey etc. 12 days with only one day at sea. It returns 10 Novemeber. It seems there would be less daylight hours. My question is should we do this or just wait till next year? I am not seeking to attend the beach, but I do not want cold, rainy weather either. Sept. was out first choice and due to itineray issues this seems to be the next time frame we like.it is on the Star Princess. Has anyone gone that late for a Med. cruise? Thanks.

I went in middle October and the weather was fine.
I reviewed my pictures to see what I was wearing. I wore a very light jacket one day in Venice but the other day was just a short sleeved cotton shirt. Naples was cool in the morning ,but by 10 AM it really started getting very warm. Turkey.... just a shirt and slacks no jacket. Mykonos and Santorini ....it was 84 F !!! and this was October 19 th. I never had a rainy day.... but you know it can rain anytime. I do not think that going two weeks later...there would be a major weather change. Go while you can.... you never know about next year !! :) |
That is exactly what I say to my husband. One never knows about "next year" I just don't want it to be cold. You were mid October this will be the very end. oh well the prices are incredibly less! Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your thoughts. Dianne--

Yes we got back home in the second half of October.
Barcelona was our last port and we are all in T- Shirts! You may start out in the morning in a few places wearing a light jacket but a few hours later you will be carrying it. Tell Hubby to start packing. :) |
I have booked the cruise. Now I need to book air everyone is saying do it independenly of cruise line? We would be flying into Rome, and out of Venice. I also want to stay in Rome several days prior to cruise. Obvioulsy I don't want to go all that way and not throw a coin in the fountain!!! So wish me luck.
|
I would book the air flight separate.
That is a good idea to come to Rome a few days earlier. Also if you can swing it ( time wise), then stay an extra day or two in Venice. You might as well see a much as you can. Paying for a hotel room for extra nights is still cheaper than trying to go back again because you missed something major places. Yes, I wish you luck :) |
Percy,
No truer words could ever be spoken! That would be very penny wise and dollar foolish! Thanks for your wisdom on all accounts. I hope I can find this thread when I return. I would like to let you know how it all goes. |
Good Luck
Take care and have a good time . |
We where on a 14 night at the end of October and came back on 5 November and we only had one rainy day so i think you have nothing to worry about. the weather will be cooler then what it is during the summer but i think that is a good thing as you dont want it too hot which can be unfortable. Definately book you own flights as it is cheaper but go out a few days before especially with all the recent issues with the volcanic ash. And dont forget your travel insurance just in case something does go wrong at least you can rest assured that you will get your money back

Go for it! We've done fall trans-Atlantic cruises that go into the Mediterranean and we've done a fall tour of Greece. We found the "off season" is the best in terms of no lines, no big push of crowds, so you get to see what you came to see and experience. For us the fall weather is great because we live in the hot and humid summers of the South. Even the Christmas Markets on the Rhine and Danube are not real cold.I wore my wool camel coat with muffler, gloves, boots and was never cold. Most days temps were in the 40s, and the tour guide said snow usually waits til January.

I have returned from my med cruise. We left October 26th and returned on Nov. 12th. The weather was great throughout the entire time til the end. Croatia was missed due to weather conditions. Venice was raining, and flooded upon arrival. the trip was great though, although I must admit I was dissapointed with missing a port. Other than this we had a great time, and Rome Turkey (Kudasi) seeing Ephesas was just fantasitc. Did the Almafli coast had lunch in Postiano on the beach. Doesn't get any better than that! Cheeers happy travels.

Welcome back
Glad everything went ( almost) okay ! How did you like those road going up and down the Almafli Coast.? It reminded me of a James Bond movie . :) |
Percy, I would not want to drive that at night. It is certainly not for the faint of heart. We had so wanted to go all the way to the town of Amalfi--our tour van had about 15 people on it, and some were shall we say feeling somewhat "quesy." There was also a bridge that was closed which took up more time, and we only got as far as Positano. We also did Pompei that day which was awesome!! A stop in Sorrento was had as well. Sorrento was ok but after positano it was tough to compete with---Italy is wonderful. I LOVED Rome--the Collosium was closed the day after we went there. There was some type of strike going on. The pictures of the Vatican do not do it justice! Incredible!! Thanks for writing me back!
|
I am so glad you had a good time.
I can identify with your experiences. I think everyone should ( if they can) see the Vatican, just to walk around in St.Peter's Square and look up at the Balcony where countless times on TV you have seen the Pope standing and waving to the masses. Now you can review all your pictures and remember all those places. Ahh , Priceless !! |
Diann24, would you be writing a trip report?
|
Eschew, I think not at this time.
Percy, if you are still here. We returned home and my husband has undergone tests. Not good what was found. I wanted you to read back this thread. Especially dated 14 August. You were right on--certainly being guided by the spirit guides with your statements. I wanted you to know. |
Hi diann24:
Good Morning ! I re-read what I posted on Augusr 14 about going when you can because you never know about next year. Thank you diann24, I sincerely hope your husband's test are improving. If you do not mind sharing how is he doing ? Take care |
Thanks Percy. I will know better tomorrow. Quadruple by pass tomorrow. Shocking. 58, non smoker doesn't fit the profile at all. CHL 177-! Eats cheeerios every a.m. not overweight. We went to europe like this--not knowing. He is lucky, no damage to heart as of yet. no heart attacks but badly clogged arterys. Thanks for asking.
|
Hi diann23, sorry to hear about your hubby. Hopefully, everything turns out okay for both of you. My mother in law went through that 15 years ago. Non smoker, healty eating as well. Take care.

My goodness, four coronary arteries block and he was perhaps symptom free on the trip.
Did he ever have angina, was he ever short of breath, or just tired easily ...was there anything to indicate some cardiac problem. His cholesterol is good ,but it takes years to clog up the arteries... ? Family history? Good Luck tomorrow, you will be at the hospital on pins and needles. When my Mother had open heart surgery, I still remember how I felt sitting at the hospital for over 5 hours and waiting and waiting, We all wish you and hubby the very best. |
