And here is the explanation:

Priceless!! The woman (girl) planted the threat so the trip could be cut short and she could go back to her boyfriend...! What a bratty little princess...!!!

Charlie, my reading of the article showed that the Defendant faces 10 years (not 8).

My understanding of the legal system is that even if the Defendant enters a plea of guilty or no contest, and even if she only gets probation (no jail or prison time) then most judges will still require the Defendant to pay the costs of investigation (COI).

Normally the COI are a few hundred dollars (the cost for the probation officer and some of the police leg work).

I wonder if the cost of the very large investigation will be considered and hopefully passed onto this Defendant.

I think the meaning of the word "restitution" refers to reimbursement of the cost of the FBI's JTTF which could run well into the thousands of dollars, maybe 6 figures. If she has no priors, then probation may or may not be an alternative.During probation, the probationer pays a monthly fee($50-100 varies by state/county/parish/etc)plus a part of the restitution until such time as the principal as in any other loan is paid off.
