Kid Attire for formal nights
 

We have a 13 yr. old son. Will he be required to wear a sport jacket on "formal" nights or will nice slacks, a dress shirt & a tie suffice??

What line are you cruising? It does make a difference.

Peggi, I just cruised Celebrity with my 10 &amp; 13 year old sons over Presidents week. It was the most formal line I've sailed (Disney &amp; RCCL were the others). My sons wore navy blazers, khaki's, oxford shirts and ties. They looked perfect. I only recall seeing one or 2 kids who were not wearing jackets, and they were very young. A few kids had on tuxes, which is a bit much if you ask me, a few suits, but the majority of boys were in sportsjackets.<BR><BR>I bought my son a blazer at Syms (great prices), as he will get a lot of use this year with confirmation and friends Bar Mitzvah's to attend. I borrowed a blazer for my 10 year old. There seem to be lots of them that get borrowed and make the circuit in our neighborhood, so you may want to ask around if you don't want to purchase one just for the cruise.<BR><BR>All the kids changed clothes after dinner to go to their various &quot;clubs&quot; with friends. My kids had a ball, stayed out later than I did!

Nina,<BR>That was such a helpful post for me. We are sailing on the same ship in August and I mentioned on the CC board that suits for boys are prohibitively expensive and don't get much use whereas a blazer may get more. Also glad to hear the boys had fun with other kids.

Glad to help. The Cruisecritic board can be intimidating, especially the Celebrity forum, but don't believe a lot of what you read. On our cruise tuxes were in the minority for men, people were relaxed, everyone dressed nicely but not &quot;to the nines&quot; as you might believe after reading the CC boards.<BR><BR>The food and service were excellent, and the kids had a great, great time as did we. I'm sure you'll both have a great cruise!
