Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway - ONE excursion in each place
I know there is a wealth of information within these Fodor pages but therein lies the problem. I need a bit of help please in narrowing things down - sensory overload here.
My dad and his companion (both in their 70's but very fit and sprightly!) are travelling from the UK in mid-September and are booked on an NCL Alaska cruise. Dad is completely bemused by the enormous list of shore excursions he has been sent and I would appeal to all you cruising Fodorties to help us out. If you could recommend just ONE excursion in each of the stops - Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway, what would it be? |
Ooops..so sorry. Somehow I have managed to post this again!

Juneau - gold mine tour. Humorous and informative. Skagway - the White Pass railroad. Full of interesting facts and beautiful scenery!

Depends on their interests and how much they want to spend, many of these tours cost a LOT...
Juneau; Whale watching tour or glacier heliflight. Skagway; Probably the train would be best bet here. Ketchikan; Misty Fjords scenic flight, short tour of totems/town, walk around Creek Street. None of these may be of interest to them so narrow down what does interest them and go from there. |
We just returned, and I can only reccommend what we did. They were all great.
Ketchikan: Misty Fjords Cruise and Seaplane (very scenic) Juneau: Whale Watching (nice, but we had hoped to get closer to the whales) Skagway: Helicopter/Dogsledding (great!) |
