is this a good time to go?

We are looking at a southbound one way cruise from Seward to Vancouver on June 24th. There are no balconies available but there is a room on C with window port side. I know nothing about cruises or the layout.. is this a good choice and a good time to go? We could go earlier, but we won't have a room with a window. So how important is it to have the window in your opnion. We are also planning on spending about 5 or six days prior to cruise in Alaska but haven't worked out itinerary yet. Suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

I don't care where my cabin is, and I go for cheap. :) But an outside is a great option in Alaska and plenty of people rave about it. My opinion only, if it takes away funds from tours, then I would definately go with the tours. :)

June is a great time to go, but ANYTIME you go, you will need similar attire- be prepared for varied weather.

With 5-6 days I suggest Denali Park and Seward, two top highlight must do areas.

I am one who will not cruise without a balcony, especially in places like Alaska. I do not like having to squeeze into the crowd at the rail to have a good view of the dramatic scenery that makes Alaska so special.

I also agree that excursions are crucial to having a full appreciation of Alaska but would opt for the entire trip only if I could do both.

You just have to determine your own priorities.

This is completely untrue outside of the glacier sailing day. I spend all my time out on deck and frequently am the ONLY one. I never have a problem with the "crowds" during the glaicer sailing either- since a number of people don't have the proper attire and leave quickly and other's just don't stay out at long as I do. A bonus is all the eyes available for wildlife sightings. :)

Balconies are raved about, great so many enjoy them, but not for everyone.

I was amazed at all the people sitting around inside, playing cards, etc, etc when all that beautiful scenery was passing by. Why did they come all the way to AK ?

I, too, was the only one on deck many times. If you are going to get a balcony on the side with the most scenery, do so, but otherwise you'll be with the rest of us - on the other side.

Enjoy, M.A.
