Irons in a ship?

Hello:
I am first-time cruiser and I read somewhere that you cannot take an iron with you. Is this true? Since there are 2 formal nights I will want to unwrinkle my dresees. If you can't take one will one be provide for you?
I will be going on Celebrity's Mercury for Alaska.

thankyou.

I'm afraid this is true, as irons present a fire hazard aboard ship. You can pack a travel steamer, however. Or you can opt to have the ship press your garments. The cost isn't usually all that much for pressing, and they do a great job!

Enjoy your cruise!

I have only cruised with P&O , but their ships all have good laundries with irons and boards as well as washers and driers.
Is this not the case on all cruise ships?

Many, but not all, cruiselines have self-service laundries with irons available.

I don't believe that Celebrity ships do have self-service laundries on them.

Here is a link to the costs of cleaning, dry cleaning, and pressing only on Celebrity ships... hope it helps!

Well, since my link didn't work exactly as planned - use the link above and then click on Ship and Stateroom details and then on the question "Do staterooms have irons and ironing boards" and it will take you to the list of prices - sorry!!

Hang your cloth in the shower, let the hotwater run and the steam will do its work..
Remember every passenger is on vacation, so a wrinkle more or less isnot that important....

HAL ships have no self-service laundries (why would anyone want to do laundry on vacation anyway?). We just pay for pressing, d/c & laundry. The cost is nominal.

Mercury has no irons nor self serve laundry. I bring my small steamer and it wokds great!

My husband and I both had our clothes pressed for the formal nights. It was not expensive. They (HAL) did such a good job, we sent out a bag of laundry 2 days before our cruise ended as we were not going home right away. That was not expensive either and we were pleased with the results.

Thanks for your replies.
I will try and get a travel steamer or just get it done there.
