Interesting trips
As a single woman, ,more interested in a fascinating trip than finding romance, what sort of cruise trips would you recommend ?<BR>Caribbean conventional ?<BR>Norwegian explorer ?<BR>or what ?<BR>

Aurora, it really depends on what you want. I have taken solo tips where I wanted to just get away and was not really looking for "company", and I have found relaxation on a Caribbean cuirse. I just didn't go to any of the lounges or social functions. People will leave you alone if you want to be left alone .<BR>Pick a cruise base on what part of the earth you want to explore and what you want to get from your trip. Do you want warmth and beach and sun? Go Caribbean. Do you want education and exposure to culture? Pick an explorer cruise. I personally don't care for a cruise to Europe. I love Europe and it is too big for a few day stops to do justice to it. Pick what you want to experience. <BR><BR>My most "facinating" cruise was a trip on the Alaskan Marine Ferry. This is how the Alaskans that live along the inside passage travel. This was not a conventional cruise ship. I did it solo and met some facinating people and I could get on and off the ferry in towns and spend as much time as I wanted there. Had many great experience from encountering grizzly bears to going to the Moose Dropping Festival!<BR><BR>

Aurora -<BR><BR>If you want a "fascinating" trip, forget Caribbean. <BR><BR>If you would like info on these<BR>"fascinating" or unusual cruises, just ask:<BR><BR>Norweigan coast, North Pole, Bering Strait and Sea, Easter Island, Antartica, Scotland's outer islands.

I really enjoyed Iceland and points north and down the coast of Norway on Princess a few summers ago.<BR><BR>If you enjoy history, I'd recommend the Greek Isles and Turkey (Istanbul and Ephesus).<BR><BR>I agree with Dave on the low interest in Caribbean.<BR><BR>How about China/Japan/Thailand etc.?<BR><BR>Keep searching. Lots of interesting places out there!!

Research the small "Amazing Grace" ship.<BR>It supplies all of the Barefoot cruising ships in the Caribbean! I think it includes 13 very small interesting Islands. I know the Amazing Grace has solo Cruises! I would love the adventure of this particular ship!!<BR>Have fun! MB

two weeks in the Baltic is awesome... great cites like Stockholm, St. Petersberg, Copenhagen and Amsterdam, culture, white nights...can extend on either end and easily see London or Paris..

To Sister: Windstar is geared more to couples-- We were on the Windsurf( their 330 pass. ship in the Med) and only met 2 single ladies on the entire ship--All else were couples.....<BR><BR>Now, you don't say your age, but WINDJAMMER ( a totally different experience- ie low key-shorts and tee shirt) sailboating might be right up your alley if you are between 20-40....<BR>You can learn how to sail a boat etc on that ship and it is VERY VERY low key....

Iris-Zompi-In Sept. 2013 we're taking a Princess cruise from Copenhagen to NY, 16 days. It includes Norway, Scotland, N.Ireland,Iceland,Greenland. It will be our 10th cruise, so we're not nearly as experienced as some the salty dogs on Fodors, but experienced enough to know we love cruising. We enjoy transAtlantics and have done 3. Check out various cruiseline websites and see what interests you and what prices are within your travel budget. Good luck.

When I was single I took probably about 7 cruises on my own as a solo traveler, to include a Windjammer (which last I heard is no longer in business). The majority of the itineraries were Caribbean and Mexico. I agree completely with Cathy's comments except that I loved (and still do) Europe. However, the most fascinating trip I took as a single was not a cruise - Egypt. So if it were me - - I would do a Nile River Cruise if you're set on cruising. The second most fascinating trip was also not a cruise - a trip through Morocco which I ended up doing through a company where my traveling companions turned out to be a family from Switzerland and me and that was it. I practiced French; they practiced English. We travelled in a VW minibus with a guide on a 12 day trip. Great adventure. I agree with others that you need to decide what "fascinating" means to you. Yup, Percy - we all get caught the first time. THEN we learn to look at the date. It just takes someone to Google her way in, ask a <i>really</i> dumb question and off we go.
Of course, this cruising board moves so slowly that now this post will be top of the heap for months. More kind people like patandhank will offer replies and round we go again. |
