INTERESTED IN EXPERIENCES ON OCEANIA CRUISES
We are taking an Oceania Cruise on "The ship Riviera" around Spain and to Gibraltar and Morocco and ending in LIsbon. Everything looks wonderful and there are quite few great shore trips offered. Has anyone taken an Oceania Cruise (especially similar to the one we re taking) and how did you like it? I'm anxious to hear from you.

We have taken 2 Oceania cruises--it became our favorite line about 1 day into the 1st one. Love the size of the ships, the fabulous service, the open seating dining, the free specialty restaurants, the lack of formal nights, the Tourist Office reps who get on at every port.
One was Barcelona to Lisbon--perhaps similar to yours. I recommend adding additional days in both Barcelona and Lisbon.
If you go to www.cruisecritic.com, you will find an entire message board dedicated to Oceania, and you can look in the Roll Call boards (Oceania, Riviera, sailing date) to find fellow passengers. You can connect with people with whom to share private excursions. We don't do ship's excursions.

Many people like the ship's excursions--for us, they never seem to have the right combination of things we want to see, and there's too much time (for my impatient self) waiting for a herd of people to get on/off the bus, use the restroom, etc. Just our personal preference.

We've done 3 cruises on Oceania, but all on the older "R" Class ships. Loved them all. Food is the best of any line we've tried. Service is exceptional, except as seems to be common on all ships, the front office - those folks have never been helpful, but as I said that seems to be the same no matter which line or ship we're on.
If you're willing to do the research, think you'll get more for your money with private guides rather than ship's tours. Haven't used any of the excursions on our Oceania cruises, always hired our own, and loved it.

abram and boom_boom, I really do appreciate your information. I know what you mean about the ship's tours as we have done some in the past on other cruises. We are doing a couple of the ship's tours which appealed to us, but are going to take our own tours in other places. We are looking forward to our trip which is next month.

We too love Oceania..but beware, they flood your mail box with offers and brochures and its VERY difficult to get them to stop all the mailings. It took us almost a year of receiving several brochures a week (!) to get our name off their list. When we next want to cruise, we know whom to cruise with (Oceania)... but we don't want all their literature when we are not interested in traveling.
