I am going on the Carnival Paradise next April. Would like input as to problems, etc. I have been on Princess 3 times but never on Carnival.

gina Jul 9th, 2001 08:02 AM

Hi Ernie,

My husband and I sailed on the Paradise two years ago and loved it. I'm sorry this site has jaded you so much that you would ask for problems instead of high points! It was wonderful! I know there are people out there who make it their life's mission to bash Carnival, but we had a wonderful time on Carnival twice.

The non-smoking ship is a dream come true. The food was great, the maitre'd was particularly accomodating, the ship itself is immaculate.

I know it will come as a shock to some of the readers of this post, but there were NO, that's right, NO problems. We travel quite a bit and will always cruise with Carnival.

Go and have a great time!!

mikey Jul 9th, 2001 12:58 PM

Ernie, I'm not a Carnval basher, but they are definately on the bottom of my list. If you've beenon Princess before, you'll definatley be disappointed with Carnival. Service seems to be an alien term for Carnival.

Cancel your Carnival trip and go back to Princess. Carnival will dissappoint you.

Try this link. Click on "cruise lines" then "carnival. A lot of positive feedback.

Just in case the Carnival bashers have failed to tell you: (from the website)

Carnival Corporation, including its consolidated subsidiaries, is a multiple-night cruise company. The Company offers a broad range of cruise brands serving the contemporary cruise sector of the vacation market through Carnival Cruise Lines and Costa; the premium cruise sector through Holland America Line; and the luxury cruise sector through Cunard Line, Seabourn Cruise Line and Windstar Cruises.

Ernie,

Pardise is a great ship. Be aware that they defiantely enforce the "no smoking" rules. Going along with that rule you may find the casino and bars to not be quite as busy and more emphasis on entertainment. We prefer most Carnival cruises to Princess. We are not big drinkers or heavy partiers but do like to have fun. We've had excellent service with the exception of Ecstasy. We really did not like that ship.

Paul Therault Jul 29th, 2001 01:02 AM
Hi Ernie,

Do not listen to the negatives you hear about Carnival.

I have sailed all Carnival ships, some twice and never had a real unpleasant experience. Sure, sometimes you will get a waiter, busboy or cabin steward that will make mistakes but you will get that in any hotel or restaurant in the states.

You will just love the food and even the buffet is getting better.

Have a fun time.

Paul

OH LOOK...surprise surprise, another Paul opinion!

Paul Therault Aug 3rd, 2001 10:18 PM
You should all realize by now that passengers are hesitant to post a positive report on this Fodors site because of people like Mikey and x.

You are very brave Gina.

Paul

Julia Aug 6th, 2001 11:33 AM

Ernie, you should know that Paul Therault is a travel agent and his opinions are biased. He stated several weeks ago he would no longer post on this site again. But true to Paul Therault form, he can't wait to put his two cents worth in on almost every post, especially when it concerns Carnival.

Paul...I thought you were going away. Due Fodors a favor and get lost. You only antagoinize everyone on the cruise posts.

Charles Aug 6th, 2001 01:01 PM

Julia, Etc.

Paul gives his opinions on cruise subjects and I for one would much prefer to hear from him than to hear from you guys who have never added a bit of information to the discussions. All you ever do is attack Paul and travel agents. I want their opinion when I need information on a cruise. I use financial consultants for my finances, insurance people for insurance, Doctors for medical, lawyers for legal, and YES, I also like to use travel agents for my travel. How strange I must be! I also like the thoughts of others who have something to add to the discussion but have no tolerance for nuts who just go all over these boards posting negative nasty remarks. Do you really think anyone listens to you except for those that just want to stir up a worthless and uninformative thread that really isn't about cruising at all?

Paul Therault Aug 6th, 2001 10:00 PM
Thank you for the kind words Charles.

Paul

pantene Aug 7th, 2001 07:12 AM

Just wondering... Paul, are you a travel agent?

xman Aug 7th, 2001 09:27 AM

Charles if all you want to hear is positive input, I'm confused.

You will find that the attitude on this board can be directly correlated to the narrow mindedness of the traveler on this thread. Take a look at how people treat each other on the Europe thread. You will be amazed to find they are quite civil. And almost always have some kind of positive input.

Here is my positive input for people on this board. Try something different. Broaden your horizons and maybe your minds. You'll be amazed at how differently things look.

Charles Aug 7th, 2001 09:45 AM

At no time did I say that I wanted only positive feedback. I only said that I want information, not just nasty comments. I want both good and bad. I can read a brochure to get the good only. What I look for is constructive help such as " the entertainment was not very good on XYZ ship" or "the cabin steward we had was not very attentive" or that the port stops were very short or the dining room service was very slow, etc. These things help more than "Carnival stinks" or " I hate RCCL" or even "Celebrity is the best". Generalities are not as helpful as specifics. I also want to hear from ANYONE that has been on the cruise that is being discussed and that would include travel agents. I just don't want to skip over a 10 night cruise on a new ship because someone had a bad experience on a 3 night cruise on their oldest ships. Just want to compare apples to apples.

What?? Aug 7th, 2001 09:47 AM

Geez, you guys!! I'm planning my FIRST ever cruise and starting to worry all the "cruisers" are vindictive nasties (julia) based on what I've seen on this board. What IS your problem??? I'm reminded of what my mom told me many years ago...."if you can't say anything nice or usefull.....don't say anything at all"

Marilyn Aug 7th, 2001 10:26 AM

Don't worry! We have met some wonderful people on cruises. We have never had table mates that we didn't like or any really bad experiences. We have liked some things better than others just as in any travel but we really enjoy the cruises. Actually I like them so well that I started a new career and am now a cruise agent. I'm sure someone will jump on that and say that is why I say that I like to cruise but it really is the other way around. I'm sure you will have a great time and fortunately you probably will not meet any of the very negative people that are on here. I suspect that some of them have never even been on a cruise! Good luck. Have fun planning and cruising.

Tom Aug 7th, 2001 12:22 PM

I would consider being warned about a potentially bad investment of my money and time useful.

As well as being warned about people who give out disinformation in favor of a cruise line that is notorious for poor quality (CCL).

So I would say what is being said about the cruise lines isn't bad/good. It is what people say about each other that is bad.

Ernie Aug 7th, 2001 12:43 PM

I really didn't mean to start the "Paul" wars again. I appreciate all the input. I am going on the Paradise with an open mind. If I'm not happy then next cruse I will be back home on Princess.
