Independent tour guides for group of 9 in ports on Med cruise?

We are a group of 9 and would like to arrange some private tours while in port. Specifically Florence, (Livorno), Naples (Capri), and Rome. Any contacts or information is appreciated.

Okay here are a few.

1. For Naples:

Contact.. Giovannio Rotondo
at kaos31msm.com
he is a very happy jovial man withgood English.

2. For Florence ( Livorno) contact:

or e-mail

[email protected]

Gioia Gualtieri is the boss , so ask for Paolo.

Paolo is the driver and will drive you to Florence from your cruise ship where you will meet your guide.

3. For Rome contact:

Roberto Meoni ,e-mail him at
[email protected]

In Italy a taxi driver cannot be a guide.

He may be able to drive you around and show you places and even explain all these places to you while you are in the car.

BUT........you have to be a licensed
guide ( a law in Italy) to be able to take you inside, say, The Vatican and start explaining things to you.

That is why you will have (perhaps) a driver and a guide.

i'd suggest you repost this question on the europeon or cruise board. the folks on the euro boards are extremely knowledgable and helpful.

We took a cruise in the area last summer and had great success with romeinlimo.com. We were a group of 7. We used them in Rome and Florence. We booked through the cruise ship for Naples. The best part of doing it with our own guide was being able to stay places longer, shop if I wanted to and being dropped off closer to the entrance to the Roman forum and such. I was worried about not being brought back in time to the ship and what happens if you miss the ship, but we had no problems and actually had a great time. Yes you do need to pay additionally for a guide but it is so worth it. Our bus tour in Naples was to Pompeii, and basically we were given a ride there and picked up a audio tour and did it on our own. Then back to the bus so we could be taken to the cameo factory and then to the inlaid wood workshop. Not my idea of fun. Have a great time.

I read this with great interest, as we're going on a European cruise this summer. Since we have different ports of call, can anyone recommend a private guide for:
Le Havre (want to go to D-Day beaches)

Thanks for any recommendations you have!

Barcelona has a large number of guides who offer a wide range of guide services.

alan at [email protected] has worked for accessible_tours (we specialise in tours for disabled cruise passengers) as an independant guide and is highly reliable, knowledgeable and very friendly.

Taxi Drivers cannot be Guides in Italy. Scams abound. Be very, very careful. Choose real English speaking persons if that is the language you wish to be guided in. Why pay for nonsense and "misunderstandings" real or imagined, especially when it comes to money.

In Naples, Amalfi and Sorrento I would suggest "Positano Adventure Walks" which I have used and recommended. They are native American and English speaking Guides.

I second tinasvac recommendation for romecabs.com. We used them last September. Just excellent. They arranged a private guide for the Vatican but other than that their drivers are fantasctic. We had "Big Marco". The owner is Stafano and communicates immediately after contacting him and the tour was tailored to our requests. WE found him through recommendations on cruisecritic.com. This is an old thread so you may have already had your cruise!!!!
