If ship schedule says dock at 6 am, when will they let us off?

Our HA cruise arrives in Le Havre at 6 am. Based on any past experience, when can passengers start leaving the ship? We have a 6:58 am SNCF train to catch!

I would not count on a schedule that tight. Stuff happens, and even if it does not, that is really close.

On average I thought a disembarkation took a couple of hours. I would advise them you need "Priority Disembarkation", but I've never heard of a connection being made within the hour of the time the ship arrives in port. I would call the cruise line asap & ask. Have fun !

It depends where to ship comes from. If it is from a "schengen" country, no special customs will be needed. Otherwise the ship must be "cleared" first.

It takes an hour or two for the ship to clear before the passengers can start disembarkation. You might be delayed in your arrival, too. Those times are an estimate. Disembarkation can get very stressful and I would consider re-scheduling for a later train. They will drop a form in your stateroom that asks for your travel schedule after disembarkation and your response determines your disembarkation group. In working in the travel industry for more than 13 years, I recommend that clients schedule flights for late morning at the earliest after a cruise.

Julia

We have made that connect before. BUT the key is not having any luggage to pickup. We travel very light with only carryon luggage. Don't put any luggage out the night before. And simply walk off the ship when the door opens. The exit attendant protested that we did not have the right color code (priority) to get off and that our luggage would not be available. We just apologized and kept walking. What are they going to do ??? -- we are leaving. In LeHavre there was a bunch of taxis waiting at dock. Got the first one and left.

Our cruise does not end in Le Havre. Le Havre is merely a port stop. I wasn't asking about the long end-of-cruise disembarkation, just a port stop.

I gathered that when I responded. Ship still has to meet certain port/paperwork criteria. While no personal experience with any European port, other cruises we have been on have arrived both early and late at various ports.

For me it would depend on what consequences of missing train are - can you get a later train, do you lose your money?

Also, regarding train travel from Le Havre, I found the following on cruise critic:

Le Havre's train station is about a mile from the port though, in most cases, passengers will have to take the shuttle from the ship to the center of Le Havre and then a taxi to the station (or take a taxi directly from the port to the station). Trains run to Gare St-Lazare (Paris) roughly every hour; at press time, ideal morning departures were limited to 7:56 or 10 a.m.; returns from Paris, depending on ship's sailaway schedule, include 4:48, 5:58 and 6:40 p.m. For more information contact RailEurope.com (800-942-4866).

Great !!! Someone who has never been on an European cruise and has never docked at Le Havre is offering the advice of maybe your can or maybe you can't. At least it is nice to know that she confessed to her lack of expectise.

We are "jumping ship" a day and a half early in Palermo next month and had to notify Celebrity 30 days ahead (via the TA) for permission.
Not an issue in Europe, but apparently in the US a real potential hassle.
