I love the white linen suit idea! I was going to suggest something like that, something creative and ultra cool like maybe a caftan or asian wear? I don't know if he's wanting to be comfortable in his same old stuff, or if he just resents being put into a "uniform." If it is the "uniform" of a dark suit he resents, let him wear something fabulous and exotic!
