How dressy is it?
Taking my first cruise in December. How dressy is this captain's dinner? I know some wear formals. I had bought a long, sleveless dress (dressier than a sundress but plainer than a formal) last summer to wear...is this appropriate? <BR> The semi-formal dinner I'm not too concerned about.<BR> Would appreciate any hints on this subject. Thanks a bunch.

You'll be fine...believe me, you'll see a lot of stuff you wouldn't dream of wearing...

Kaye -- I'm not sure what you mean by "captain's dinner". <BR><BR>If you're invited to dine at the captain's table [or any table hosted by an officer], you will still dress according to the posted standards for that evening. <BR><BR>There are several websites that describe them very well -- you might do a search for "cruise ship dinner dress". <BR><BR>Also, I recall there were several responses to your earlier post on this matter.<BR><BR>A LONG sleeveless dress [except for the ankle length "Florida sack dress"] should be fine with the addition of jewelry. Evening ware is normally distringuished by the lenth of dress...long for evening, knee length for informal.<BR><BR>The thing is -- wear something that makes you feel good, then have a great evening! <BR><BR>

The Captains dinner is on every cruise line. It is simply the p.m. when the Captain and his Staff dine in the dining room with the guests. Pictures are taken to be sold of course, later on. A memorial of the trip as so to speak. I suppose it is a nice gesture. I could really care less about it, I think it is a lot of silliness and a pretentious bunch of hoopla nonsense. I have always found it to be fake. We cruise to visit different destinations, then do several land vacations. Cruise every so often. Black is in. Wear a black dress and you will feel fine. I don't know what cruise line you are sailing on. I think some may follow a dress code more so than others.

Don't work yourself into a frenzy.<BR><BR>Most folks don't care what you wear to the formal nights. You will see many different types of outfits ranging from flower print "church" dresses to high fashion ball gowns.<BR><BR>Photos ops will be available, so wear something you want to remember. <BR><BR>You're there to have a good time. You will look beautiful. Chill out.
