How do they know?

How do the room stewards know when you are in or out of your stateroom? They never disturb you when you are there, but if you leave for a few minutes and come back, your room has been cleaned and/or the bed turned down. Does anybody know? I have not seen them there in the passageway watching.

Good one xxxx! Seriously, the stewards know which seating you've selected, so there's somewhat of a hint when you'll probably be gone. After a few days he/she may get a pattern on your activities. I usually leave the *clean room* tag out when I leave for breakfast in the morning, so he knows the room is empty. It's strange that in all my cruises I've never run into one in the process of cleaning the room, now that you mentioned it...(maybe it IS magic!) In any case, they are definately fast, and good!

The good stewarts pay attention to when you leave. I just got back from the Galaxy and our Stewart (Margaret) would pop her head out of what ever cabin she was in to see who was leaving their cabin. She knew when you left and could get an idea if it was a short trip or if you'd be gone long enough for her to clean.

On QE 2, the stewardesses wedge a tiny bit of paper in the doorjam above the door early in the morning.

When you leave your cabin in the morning, the piece of paper drops out, indicating that you've left the cabin!

Look around on the hallway floors of ships, and you might see little bits of paper here and there!
