Holland America's 'Single Partners program' to Alaska.
 

Hi,
I want to take a cruise to Alaska and see that Holland America offers a Single Partners Program where they find you someone to share your cabin with you so you don't have to pay a single 'supplement'.And if they can't find a cabin mate for you they give it to you for the double rate.
Has anyone heard of or used this program before?

Yes, they do have that program. I have not used it but have met people on the ship who were and were not happy.

If your cabin mate is not compatible with you or your habits, it could be uncomfortable- snoring, smoking or not, late/early sleeping, etc.

Call HAL and ask what is known about a person before making that decision. Let us know what they say.

Thanks for the reply.I'm an early to bed,early to rise person so that might not make someone who come's in at 4am every morning very happy.
Or vice/versa.
I do snore and I don't smoke so I definitely want a non-smoker in my room.
Before I book I am going to definitely call HAL and find out how much consideration goes into finding a compatable room mate.
Last thing I need is to spend all that money and be miserable the whole time.Or make someone else miserable....

I've worn out most of my cotravelers in Alaska.

I assume you will be required to fill out a questionnaire and based on this a roommate will be found for you. Not everybody is realistic about herself.

I travelled on land with somebody who was a very agreeable person in e-mails, in reality... well... let me put it this way: we will never travel together to stay in the same room, to drive the same car.

Also, on one tour 2 women shared a room, and one blamed another in stealing her sweater. Which was found later forgotten in the lunch room.

I also know people who met through the room sharing, and became best friends. Happened to me too!

I am not trying to scare you, just want you to know the "cons" not only the "pros" of saving some money.

Some cruises charge less then double for a single cabin. I don't remember if I paid 150% or 175% for a cruise. And I had a porthole, not inside.
