Percy - thanks so much for all the great info! We love to walk so I think we will definitely enjoy the walking and sites. Do you think we need to purchase tickets for a canal cruise online before we leave home? Sounds like we can easily do this in the morning - any customs we have to clear before we are allowed into the city? Are there sidewalks for the walk from the pier to the city?

No you do not need to purchase tickets for the canal cruise ahead of time.....which is good because they go every hour and you are not sure of exactly when you will be at

the Kongens Nytorv SQuare where Nyhavn is also.

There are no customes to clear and that is why you will have to hand over your passport to the cruise ship when you first embark and the cruise ship then clears customs for everyone(I am sure).
( However , in St. Petersburg you will have to clear customs but it is not a big deal ,like I thought it might be, actually it was very simple)

Sidewalks...yes of course you will always be on a sidewalk and the walk along the canal is a very nice pathway.

When you get off the cruise ship your key name is Langelinie...that is the name of your port and the name of the Promanade ...so head toward the water and the closest walkway along the water will be Langelinie!!

Also the Little Mermaid is SMALL... she is perched on a rock, you will not miss her because they will be lots of people there taking picures.

As you walk along you will see a lot of places before you even get there..for example the large Dome of Frdericks's Church is seen from a long ways away.

And after the Little Mermaid you will be heading toward Frederick's Church as this is where the Amalienborg Palace is also.

I could name a lot more places you will see as you walk along the canal but I do not want to give you and information overload !!

I believe the "booties on feet" picture is from Catherine's Palace, not the Hermitage. (We were there in Oct.)
