High Internet charges on Avalon
We've been told that Avalon is charging "only" 5 Euro's an hour for internet hook up on their Danube river cruise. Its insane to spend about $7. an hour for internet connection. Does anyone have suggestions as to other ways to connect without having to spend precious port time in an internet cafe?

Skip the internet. You're on vacation.

Actually 5 euros is not a lot.
I have had it much higher in many places. I usually tell them, "You connect me and then start charge from the minute the connect has gone through and the my page is on the screen. " I had not had anyone refuse that request yet. Some cruise and Riverboat connections are slooow ! |
I'd love to skip the internet, but unfortunately we run a business and need to check in at least once a day.

I think it's important to have some contact available. On our lat cruise we made sure our cell phones were suitable for our visits. It was inexpensive and easy

Our recent Celebrity ocean cruise charged $49.95 for 80 minutes - I would have loved $7 an hour! Did you think it would be free?

5 Euros an hour equates to 12 cents a minute. It's cheap.
Ask if they have a package deal. |
Plus, since you run a business , this is a business expense!
Like I said 7 euros per hour , Wow!!! cheap. Ask the person in charge of the Internet to hook you up , then when your webpage comes up (or your business page), turn to him and say , "okay Thanks, start charging me right now." What you do not ant is to be billed from the second you click on the computer...and the computer is trying to connect, and that line at the bottom keeps jerking ever so slowly...and 2 minutes into the hook up,you are still waiting !!! |
That is super cheap compared with our ocean cruises. Their charges start at about $1.00 a minute, and they are really slow. The cost went down when we bought a bigger package, still much more expensive than $7.00 an hour. That is a bargain.

Have you made final payment? AMA Waterways supplies each cabin with a computer and WIFI is complimentary on its ships in Europe. As a frequent ocean cruiser (I just returned from my 32nd cruise and always have a $100 plan because I need to stay connected every day, the week I spent on the Amacello cruising down the Danube in October with no internet charges and complimentary wine and soda at dinner every night was great.

We sailed on a Uniworld Ship on the Danube and were only charged $10 for WIFI in our cabin for the whole week. Worked great.

Take a look at Viking River Cruises, I believe they have wi-fi on all of their river ships in Europe at no cost.
