Kim,
we don't do excursions in the caribbean because they all take american dollars and speak english. Grab a cab and they will take you wherever you want to go.
If you want to swim and snorkel, go to Coki Beach in St. Thomas after you visit the shopping district right off the pier. I've only been to St. Martin once and just shopped around a little.
There isn't a whole lot to sightsee on the islands as they are not too big. We just shop, snorkel and scuba. Have fun!

Kim,
St. Thomas is wonderful for gold shopping and taking a cab is fine-they are regulated there for the tourist. St. John's is beautiful but getting there and back will eat into your time-I know I have been there several times and have a friend that lives there. In St. Martin you can shop for liquor at great prices, and if you are a smoker you can also get those very cheap. Beach clothing is a good buy too, have to barter a little. St. Martin also has casinos if your are interested in gambling. I try to gamble just a little everywhere they have a casino. All in all you really don't need to do the cruise packages. And skip the butterfly farm-really not worth the money or time. Have a good time, the Grand is so large!

We too are taking the Grand to St. Maarten/Thomas. We leave May 26th and have been wondering about excursions. We cancelled the one in St. M as friends are taking a hop over to spend the day with us.
We are scheduled for the NEW WAVES snorkeling in St. Thomas IS IT WORTH IT or is another better? Don't want to waste precious time or money! Also, someone mentioned cell phones... I have sprint... can you actually get service? Thanks for any suggestions/help.

Rebel:

How was your trip? Actually the Grand Princess has a ship cam and I viewed St. Thomas and St. Maarten. How beautiful. Did you feel crowded on the ship? How was the food? I would like to go in 2003 on the Grand Princess.
