Hawaii or Eastern Caribbean

We ( both late 50's) am planning a week in Las Vegas in Dec 2011 and would like a week or so somewhere else, maybe a cruise. We are travelling from Australia. I can not decide if cruising around Hawaii or go across to the Caribbean from say Miami or Fort Lauderdale, has anyone done either or both of these cruises and may share some useful info to help me make my decision.
Thanks and Merry Xmas

Have cruised in both areas prefer the Hawaii Cruises

great beaches lots of variety on different islands

even volcanoes NP is truly amazing to see.

Hawaii would also break up your journey to/from Oz nicely

whereas air/cruise costs/time would be far more for Carib.

Happy Hunting,

I have done both the Caribbean numerous times. Hawaii once. It is difficult to say but since you are traveling from Austraila I am assuming beaches are beautiful etc. if you are beach people Caribbean has some of the most pretty beaches I have ever seen, including water clarity and color. If you snorkel or scuba dive then yes the caribbean would be my number one choice. With only a week, you are actually closer to Hawaii leaving from LA area. I would choose to fly to Hawaii, then do a cruise for 7 days which includes many islands, where you can see pearl Harbor, volcancos, and some goegeous terrain. If time permits that is what I would choose due to the proximity of Hawaii from say L.A. Hawaii is a busier cruise, offering more to do and see, where the Caribbean is more laid back lay on the beach relax type vacation. I believe to come that far from Austrailia I would not want to miss Hawaii. Hawaii is like no other place on earth. It all just depends on your likes and dislikes, preferences etc. I would go back to Hawaii, in a heartbeat but we live on the East Coast and the flight is not to my liking. We are also 50's(early 60's ouch!) Whatever you decide enjoy yourselves! Happy travels.
