Has ANYONE had their kids on Holland America?

I know I asked about HA & kids a couple of weeks ago, but I'd like to really hear from someone who actually sailed on HA with kids!
They have a New England / Canada itinerary this summer that we would really like to do,
but will our 10 & 12 year olds be lonely?
Thanks for the input.

Anyone?

Same question, same ages of kids. hey, maybe we can cruise together :)

Hello, We are booked to sail on HAL for this summer on a Baltic cruise with our 13-year old. I have no doubt that she will find plenty to keep her occupied. I have heard that even though HAL is more for a mature crowd there is still plenty to do for kids. Marie

Hey, Ingrid, we are booked Jun. 22 on the Rotterdam (New England / Canada).
When are you going? I have a 12 -year old boy & 10-year old girl.
Linda

Me again. You can call Ship Services at 1-800-541-1576, and they can tell you how many kiddos are currently booked on your sailing, and the age groups. On mine, there are now 29 kids in their age group. I'd still like to hear from anyone who has sailed HA with kids! Thanks.

I just asked my TA to find out the number of kids on Celebrity Millenium for the 8/23 sailing. I was told this information is never released. Does anyone know of a number I can call for Celebrity to obtain that information?

Although I love Fodors (kiss, kiss) you might try searching the (much larger) cruise forums at Cruisecritic, http://cruisecritic.com/, or CruiseMates, http://www.cruisemates.com/
Sounds like HAL has few children traveling typically.

Dear Sue,
Try calling Celebrity at 1-800-327-6700, and ask the reservationist if any dept. can give you that info. I wouldn't worry about Celebrity, however.
We have sailed twice on them, and always lots of kids, & lots of fun.
My kids loved it. And one time was Alaska, which doesn't tend to draw as many kids, but there were plenty to keep my children happy. You'll be doing Caribbean, which draws more kids, and lots of kids don't start school till after Labor Day. We cruised the last week of August last year, and there were plenty of kids. You'll love Celebrity! You'll have a real "mix" of ages.

Thanks for the info, John! I'll try them.
Linda

Linda:
We can't go that early and aren't even sure if we'll go this summer. I hope you let us know how the trip was.
We've never been on a cruise before, and my husband vows not to go for at least another 20 years. This would be something for me, the kids, and their grand parents. The alternative would be either the Caribbean or the Panama Canal in winter.

PS (My son is 12, my daughter 10).

Hi Linda,

If you are sailing the one-way Canada on HAL you will find a very limited amount of children but if there is only 6 of your children's age bracket they will have friends. They do not need hundreds. Plus, if they join the children's program they will receive undivided attention.

Paul

Linda, we took our two kids on a Holland America cruise two years ago to Alaska. It was a fantastic experience. They were nine (girl and 14 (boy). HAL had different things for each of them. The shore excursions were exciting; however, both of them elected on occasion to skip the shore excursion and stay onboard to do something fun. We have thought of taking another cruise and would definitely go Holland America because of HAL. I would really recommend the Alaska cruise. We went in July and spent 4 days prior in Vancouver. It was a very fun family trip.
