Has anyone been on Star Clipper recently ?
We are looking to book a cruise in the Caribbean this fall/winter - we definitely want a small ship. How is Star Clipper line ??

We've sailed with Star Clipper twice. Once in the Caribbean and once in the Mediterranean.
We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the sailing was great. We prefer the dining to the large cruise ships. No set time, sit wherever you'd like, and resort attire appeals to us. It's very easy on & off with 150 passengers instead of 2,000. The staff and other passengers get to know each other very quickly. And last but not least, you go into some small islands that a large ship can't go into. In the Caribbean we did the U.S. and British Virgins along with St. Martin & St. Bart's. Absolutely gorgeous. Our favorite was St. Bart's for a busy island and Jost Van Dyke for a quiet island. The food & service was all extremely good. We will sail with them again someday, this time on their larger ship(300 passengers), The Royal Clipper. Another suggestion is Windstar Cruises. We have also sailed with them twice. Very similar experience, a little more luxury, but the sailing on Star Clipper is better--100% sail instead of part sail & part motor on Windstar). Bon Voyage! |
We have done 2 star clipper cruises and loved them. One was from Istanbul to Athens and the other was from Cannes, France to Croatia. My dream is to do the 38 day from Thailand to Athens. They actually SAIL. They go into little harbors, casual, and you feel great because you are not among the masses of 3,000 people like a cruise ship. It's the closest you will get to that "private charter" feeling without private chartering. Perfect vacation!

Thank TPAYT and southeastern - we are waiting on some brochures from them and hopefully we'll be on the Jan 30th Caribbean sailing !!

JerseySue---just a suggestion. If you're going on Jan. 30th, I would choose the Southern route.
We've been going to the Caribbean for 20 years and have found that before the end of Feb.it is sometimes a bit cool in the Northern part. Not to say this is every year, but we've been burned enough times. Now, if it's before Feb. 28th we'll only do St. Bart's & south. We love the U.S. & British Virgins, but we love them more from March on. |
