Halibut for dinner

My husband and I are cruising with Celebrity in Alaska in 2 weeks.....just wondering if anybody on a previous Alaskan cruise knows if they ever serve Halibut as a dinner option?

If you want Alaskan Halibut- get it OFF THE SHIP in port. Any ship halibut will be frozen and a very poor subsitute for what you can get being all the way there. Usually for me- I have halibut at least 4 nights/week when in Alaska. Nothing better. :)

If a passenger brought any fish on board I wonder if the chef would cook and serve it at dinner ?

I doubt it due to health and sanitation reasons.

I heard some lady caught a 300 lb halibut a few days ago. That must have been a thrill. ((b))

Just FYI, big halibut are the stinkiest fish known to man when hauled in off the bottom. In many halibut fishing areas in Alaska, the halibut fishers are somewhat shunned by the others. (We used to call them the "sheep ranchers of the sea.") Get in olfactory range of a halibut boat and you'll know why. Fortunately the smell goes away when the fish are prepared for table.

AFAIK, no Alaska fish merchants provision the cruise ships. You could be in the middle of the richest salmon run in history, and the cruise kitchen would still serve up the same portion-controlled, frozen, factory-bought fish that they'd serve in Antigua.

In the past you could get your fish prepared for your dinner table. HAL now will store your fish for you- at least has been reported they will. Verify everything directly from the ship.
