HAL New England-Canada booking excursions

We'll be taking a 7 day cruise this fall. Boston to Quebec City, with stops in Bar Harbor, Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown, and Quebec. We are history buffs, and also enjoy taking photos of land and sea. In Charlottetown, some time at Green Gables is a must., but just for one of us None of the cruise line's excursions seem perfect in terms of itineraries or amount of time. We are all good walkers. We'd consider booking private guides. Do you have comments or suggestions?

www.cruisecritic.com is an excellent site for info on cruises.

Try the Ports of Call board for ideas about private excursions and the Roll Call for your sailing if you're interested in sharing private excursions with fellow passengers.

In Bar Harbor we booked with a private tour company to see Acadia National Park. Glad we had booked it ahead of time as passengers from the ship were lining up trying to join the tour. It was very reasonably priced and was excellent.

Thank you. I've found Duncan's Tours for PEI. Looking for a private guide for Quebec City.

traveller and Elaine...we avoided the same situation in BH...so we hopped the private bus tour with a delightful driver/guide...she gave us an excellent two-hour circular trip of the park, smashing views, many stops. $30. They leave from in front of Testa's restaurant at 10 and 2.

I tagged these pics for Canada only, so here they are..all of the same cruise described by Traveller. I found Stewman's pound and lobster restaurant at the harbor for a superb offering of lobster and sinful clam chowder! Being a long time worldwide independent cuss, I'm not much of a cruiser but found this particular trip to be excellent in every way.

p.s....I took one of the PEI excursions and the Fort Louisburg trip near Sydney (excellent), but rented a car in Halifax for a delighful day in Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg..a very nice Canadian couple joined me..worked out very well. Be sure to rent car near the harbor, not the airport...Enterprise is close by.
