Haines vs. Train/Yukon Kayaking

Has anyone gone kayaking in Haines? How was the wildlife? Any bear sightings?

Alternative is taking White Pass train to Fraser BC and going kayaking there. Doesn't seem as if there's as much wildlife, and Haines excursion is much less.

Do not count on any wildlife out of Haines, very rare except for some eagles.

You need to determine, WHERE this kayaking is??? I have only seen rafts on the river (that I recall??) and the kayaks were on the lake- which isn't that unique, in my opinion.

Thanks, BQ! The Haines private trip offers 1 hr bike ride along Chilkoot river to Chilkoot lake, then 1 hr kayak on lake. Would love to hear your opinion.

In my opinion, you are better off with a raft trip on the river. From the road, there isn't a lot of eagle views, they are all from the water. As already said, the lake is nothing special for me.
