guar. cabin

I read on another site about people finding their room number even though they had a guarentee rate. Does anyone know how to do this. Thanks

Check your reservations on the official cruise site. Celebrity had my cabin # hrs after booking. Good Luck! I'll cross my fingers for your upgrade.
I booked a guaranteed ocean view and was placed midship in the lowest deck.
Now, I wish we had guaranteed a balcony (didn't have that category then, do now). We can live with the oceanview, just that after reading all the posts I really wish we had a balcony.

I am not sure if you meant if you could find your room # before booking a guaranteed, but that would be a no. After you book it, you can go to the cruise line web-site with your confirmation/reservation # and find out. I did pretty well with RCL, I booked a guaranteed balcony and ended up getting a "superior" balcony.

I wish I had known more about the "guarentee cabin" before our cruise on the Jewel 1/2005. 8662 was one of the worst cabins on the ship, and this was a balcony. We were three cabins from the back of the ship and the window washer was parked right outside our balcony. There was NO view except around that thing. We tried changing the room - we were told you got what you paid for an E1 balcony. Customer relations were so rude. I'm glad you're doing your research phlebo3.

phlebo, if I understand your question correctly, the answer is "sometimes". Check the cruiseline website as mentioned above. When I cruised Princess with a guarantee, they assigned a cabin in a few weeks; I am not cruising Carnival with a guarantee and they have not assigned a cabin yet, so there is nothing to see. Even if you do see a cabin, there is always the chance of a further upgrade.

If you book with a travel agent they should be able to get you a cabin assignment when they do the booking.

I think we need a new travel agent!

What our TA told us is that the longer it took to get our cabin #, the better our chances of an upgrade. On Carnival Pride to Mex Riv, we went from inside to outside, but didn't have a # until we got to dock. On Celebrity, we booked thru an online site and the next day we already had cabin # assigned, and it was not an upgrade. I thought internet provider had cabins to get rid of but they assured me that Celebrity assigned the room.
