Grand Cayman Beach at Port?

We are going on the Carnival Valor, 7/9/06. At the Grand Cayman Port, is there a nice beach we could walk to from the ship and snorkel? If not, how far to a nice beach and how much is it to take a taxi?

In Grand cayman, you MUST take a tender to shore. When you get off the tender, go to the street, turn right and walk about two blocks and you'll find a free snorlking place, Edan Rock, but its not a beach, we put our bags on dry coral. The reef is just off the beach and you can rent snorkle grear there. There is a smaller place just before it. But, In Cayman, you have GOT to snorkle and SWIM WITH THE RAYS!!!! Go to captainmarvins.com (or email at [email protected]) and look at what they have to offer. You can go for 6 or 3 hours. This is snorkling at 2 0r more different spots and them swimming with the rays. The ship will offer this tour but Captain Marvin is a LOT less and probably better - there will be fewer people! They are VERY reliable and a LOT of cruise passengers got with him. To get to their 'bus' turn left when you get off the tender and walk a few blocks but make a reservation before you get there.
We were on the Glory in Nov. (and her sister ship, the Valor end of March). We went to the deli the night before ports and got made to order sandwiches. Then take them ashore in our collapsible cooler for lunch along with our water or soda. Be glad to answer any questions you have about the Glory or her ports. Just email me, [email protected].

My husband and I thinking of going on a Western Caribbean cruise. This would be on Rhapsody of the Seas. The ports we would visit are Montego Bay Jamaica, George Town Grand Cayman, and Cozumel Mexico. Any thoughts on these ports? We have cruised with Royal Caribbean before and have been pleased. What do you think of Rhapsody and the crew? Would you cruise her again? If not, why? Thanks in advance!!

Our family just returned from being on Grand Cayman for a day from the Disney Magic. We booked our own excursion with our family through www.grandcaymancruiseexcursions.com - we visited three snorkeling locations (including Sting Ray City) on the Buccaneer catamaran (which is actually one of Captain Bryan's boats). This was one of the best things we did all week. The crew was delightful, courteous and fun. We were not crowded at all - in fact we were on the catamaran with about 12 other people. And the snorkeling locations were awesome! I would highly recommend this for your vacation!

I would also recomend the ray snorkling. It was probly the funnest excursion we went on.

Thanks KimiG and Yoda5peanut for the tips. We did book this cruise and are going in August, can't wait. We will look into Sting Ray City tours. Thanks.

Hi Loupee,
Hope you enjoyed your cruise. We are going on Rhapsody in August.
Did you go to a beach in Grand Cayman, if so, which one? Did you like it? Also, did you swim with the stingrays?
We are also thinking of going to Dunn River Falls in Ocho Rios.

if you do Dunn's river, book with Peat Taylor. Don't go to Eden rock, it's so crowded you will bump into everyone and the reef is damaged and in danger. If you do Capt Bryan or Capt Marvin, you will do a stingray stop and a snorkeling jaunt. Truly, the water is gorgeous once you travel out a bit, we saw every type of sting ray, eels, barracuda and coral out there.
