Grand Cayman?
 

Anyone know where the ships are going if not to grand cayman?

Will they be going to Grand Cayman in Jan.? Our cruise includes this Island. We have never been there and my husband was looking forward to Scuba diving. Anyone know?

They are starting to allow cruise ships starting November 1st.

I read on another site that Celebrity is Celebrity and RCCL are not currently visiting GC, and don't not plan to for at least another month. They are doing a day at sea instead.

Just finalized a booking with Princess in Feb. and asked the agent from Princess. She says that she thinks that Grand Cayman will be back in the itinerary for sure by Dec. There was so much damage that I do think there will be many, many tours and activities etc. not operating. Some say yes, others say no. It is a tendered port too and I think the tenders were all wrecked.

Right now they are going to another port in Mexico. I don't mind whatever happens, but I sure do not want another day at sea. We wanted the activity THERE also.

Thanks for all the replys. I am going on a cruise on Dec 11th, and that is a port of call. I had heard Grand Cayman was closed, so I was wondering what the ships were replacing it with. I hope that it isn't a sea day. That would be awful.

LissaJ I agree. We are going on a Western Caribbean tour in late Jan. We will be at sea for 3 days as it is. I don't want another!! I have never experiended GC. We were looking forward to a visit here.

I tried to book a land vacation in Grand Cayman for Christmas, and everyone tells me that it's "closed" until further notice. If Grand Cayman is high on your list of reasons to go on a certain ship, I think you would do well to postpone it. It takes an island a long time to recover from the kind of devastating hurricane that occurred there.

My travel agent called this evening about our cruise in January so I asked her if Grand Cayman is still on our itinery. She assured me that they have not been advised of any cruiselines not using Grand Cayman. They have however been informed of Grenada being replaced on itineries.

My husband and I just returned from NCL-Spirit and we were the 1st boat to dock GC. We had to tender in as the dock is finishing repair(very close to being done) the main shopping area is open and beautiful as ever. We opted to rent a moped and tour the island, homes on the beach are still completely devestated. We met up with some divers who said the reef is a mess, stingray city visitors had a blast that we heard and other than a shed roof and some gutter trash Hell was as it was when we visited 4 years ago. The water was beautiful!

Glad to hear from someone who's been to Grand Cayman, Shebalnu, since I'm scheduled week of 11/21. Are the water/beach excursions "on" (visit the stingrays, snorkel, etc.)?

All excursions were posted as open. We talked to several people who did the stingrays and said it was a blast. I did the stingrays last time we were in GC and it was great, as for the snorkling we talked with some divers who said the reefs were torn up pretty good so Im not sure if there would be much to see.

I am glad to hear GC is open. We are scheduled the end of Jan. for our visit there. Are you saying that scuba diving, snorkeling will not be good at that time? Did anyone scuba dive on your ship that you know of? Thanks.

We did talk with scuba divers on the return tender to the boat in GC. Their remarks were "the reef was a mess". We didnt really get into the details.

Our Celebrity ship was supposed to visit Grand Cayman Nov. 16, but they sent us to Cozumel instead.

Someone spoke to a recent visitor to GC and they said , be glad you didn't visit there. They aren't up and ready for thousands of visitors yet.

We were just in GC a few days ago. Our ship (the Galaxy) was anchored between the Norwegian Sun and the 'something' Whisper. We just walked all around the area that the tenders take you to (there are some beautiful and expensive shops along that main drag) and we stopped at a place on the water called Eden Rock and had some nachos and beer. Eden Rock also has a spot with access to the water where people were both diving and snorkeling. The water was gorgeous. My husband kicked himself for not bringing his fins, snorkel, etc. along this time. I think this is one of the prettiest ports..and certainly one of the most exclusive.
As for damage, none was apparent in this main downtown area. A couple of roof sections were covered in plastic, but that was all we noticed. Some ship-mates took a taxi to Hell(?) and said they saw a lot of damage enroute. Plus they heard some horror stories from their cab driver but if I didn't know what happened, I would never have guessed from what we saw.

Visited GC on 1st December aboard the Radisson Mariner, 3 other ships also in Gergetown at the same time. Took the ships tour to sting ray city and had to bus over the other side of the island, about 15 minute drive, still a lot of damage visible and a lot of tree damage, mainly stems and trunks standing but a lot of the foliage missing. Very sad sight. The rays made up for it though, albeit it was unerving at first, I am a confident scuba diver and was a little concerned especially feeding them as they almost climb up you and then you have to be concerned about the sting in the tail, literally. However with about 60 rays in the water and a lot more people, no stings recorded. Well worth doing this tour.

Did anyone comment on scuba diving and how it was that you were aware of on your recent trip to GC? I have also been told and advised to do the stingray excursion but I don't know. It doesn't sound like I would care for it but they say it is very "different."

we just got back from a western carib. cruise on nov.14 they stopped at grand cayman, unfortunately we were not impressed
