Good pre-cruise Barbados hotel
 

What would be a good hotel that would be reasonably close to the cruise ship pier.

Check out www.peachandquiet.com. A small resort on the South Coast about 15 minutes from the airport. Prices are reasonable and the food is good. Rooms are fan-cooled (no AC).

You might look at the Savannah or Amaryllis Beach - both are 2-3 miles from Bridgetown -- they are the closest.

Peach and Quiet is 14.5 miles from Bridgetown.

To add to Lois' point, it takes about 30 minutes to drive to the cruise terminal from Peach and Quiet (a $25-30US taxi ride).

We really like the place - not luxury but very comfortable and personal and excellent value - we also enjoy the occasional 'Fawlty Towers' moments.

The snorkelling lagoon is fun too...angel fish the size of dinner plates!

Eek - before booking the Savannah, check out this thread on the Fodor's Caribbean board and the more recent reports on Tripadvisor. The hotel seems to be going though a bad patch lately!

Stayed at the Savannah last January, and was not too impressed. Needed a lot of work, and our room had a sewer smell.
