Good Beginner Cruise?
 

Hi there!
Well I'm new to the whole cruising thing and have been looking for a good 3-5 day cruise departing from New York. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I'm just looking for a basic cruise - nothing too fancy ... a "beginner" cruise. I'm new to the whole cruising thing so I'm not quite sure what to look for, or what type of cruise would be best...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How important is food & entertainment?

Out of NYC itself is Norwegian, Princess
Canard out of Brooklyn
Royal Carib out of Bayonne, NJ.
so you might want to research these.

Thanks so much! I'm looking for a mid-range sort of cruise with activities, but also some down time. Entertainment isn't that important too me - the food doesn't have to be the best, but it should be better than average ....

I would advise to pick a 5-day cruise first time. 3-day cruises are "party cruises" I was told.

What time of the year? If September-October, I've heard cruises to Canada are beautiful, and you're getting fall colors.

Check out itineraries. Do you want a new port each day, or you want a day or 2 at sea?

Can you get sea sick? The cabin should be in the middle on the lower level.

What can you afford? Inside cabin, window, balcony?

I assume you have passport. Every ship has at least one stop in another country.

I like Expedia to see and compare cruises. You can search by departure port, and when you get a list of cruises, click "compare".

A agree with Dayenu. Go on a fall foliage cruise. Carnival has some great ones leaving NYC. They go north with a day at sea or two. The only other cruises you would get out of NYC are 7-10 days to the Caribbean or Bermuda.

Stick to the main cruise lines. Princess, Carnival Royal Caribbean, Norweigian Cruise lines for your first time.

Also, search google for Cruise Reviews. There are plenty of sites where you can read reviews of the cruise you want to take before you buy it.
