Golf St. Thomas
What would be the best and cheapest way to arrange for a round of golf in St. Thomas, through the cruise line or on your own? What about transportation to and from the golf course? Thanks.

Joan-just spoke to someone who got back from cruise that did St.THomas--she said security is so tight that they come on ship and see each person individually--she also said NOT TO DO ANY MORNING EXCURSIONS AS YOU WILL MISS THEM DUE TO IMMIGRATION SECURITY NOW__My advise for a golf game:let the cruise ship plan it for you in the afternoon and go with them as THEY have to get you back to the ship before sailing time..............
Hi Joan,

The cruise line will make all the arrangements including transportation and t'times. They will also make sure you get back to the ship on time or they will hold the ship.

Paul

Thanks for such good info. Any suggestions for what I can do by myself in St. Thomas while he's golfing (besides shopping)? Is there a tour of the island that I could take and feel comfortable by myself? Thanks again.
Hi Joan,

I wouldn't go taxi by yourself.

Ask your travel agent to get you the shore tour info in advance and you can plan ahead. The ship tours are not that expensive for one and you will be with many others. The city tour is a nice way to spend a few hours and it will be reasonable.

Paul

You can normally go on line into the cruise lines website and see all the excursions they offer and can even book the excursions....
A terrific one is the 1/2 day sailing/snokeling to St.Johns Island (home of ROckResort) on a small sailboat for 6 people--do not need to be a couple to do this....

Also there is usually a bus ride thru the rainforest and a stop at the top of St.THomas for a drink --not my cup of tea, but you may enjoy it......

You can do plenty of shopping right at Havensight Mall-just in front of the cruise ships without going into town---

And seriously, don;t worry about going into town--just ask another couple if you can share a cab with them---the cabs are really mini vans that carry 8-10 people and they won;t even leave the pier til they are filled up----It's the same way for getting back to the cruise ships--the mini vans cruise the downtown area ( only 2 streets parallel to each other) and pick up a multitude of people....When you are in town, there are some neat alleyways--esp near Cardow's jewelry--that have neat little restaurants there--very easy to have lunch by yourself and enjoy the day shopping.....

If your hubs is playing golf-the best place on St.Thomas is Mahoghany Run GOlf Course.

HAve a great time!

Hi Joan, You're gonna have a nice time in the USVI. First off,if hubby is golfing, from the time he leaves the ship to his return will be at least 6 hours for 18 holes at Mahoghany Run(the only course on St.Thomas/St.John).Sooo with at least that much time to burn you have a number of things to try.My choice would be the St.John island tour,as its much more scenic than St. Thomas and I'm not a shopper. The tour of St. Thomas will fill your day and drop you in town when complete to walk about or shop. You could take a snorkle trip to Coki Point for a few hours on the beach and(I think its still open)there is a small aquarium there called Coral World to check out.Andy mentioned a tour to the rain forest but I don't remember a rain forest on St.Thomas or St.John but its been a few years since I've been there so who knows what may have popped up!!If you like to walk its only a twenty minute walk from the ship to downtown, its safe but take a cab after dark.Enjoy and tell hubby to hittem straight.
Hi Joan,

Here's the golf info for St. Thomas I got for you today. It is the ship's tour:

Trasportation to the Mahogany Run Golf Club. Par 70. Built around the coastline of St. Thomas. Majority of the course runs through dense, lush rain forest until it reaches the intimidating "Devil's Triangle." These three signature holes are acknowledged as the three most famous holes in the Caribbean.

Duration: 4 1/2 hours. $160.00

Have fun ... break 70.

Paul
