Going on Mediterranean cruise. Are open toed shoes not permitted anywhere?

I'm doing the RCCL to Spain, France, and Italy. I thought I read somewhere that sandels/open toed shoes are not permitted in some museums and churches. Is this true?

Thanks!

Oh, no. Here we go again..........I can hear it now!! :-)

While I know this is true in some churches, I couldn't say that its all churches. Don't think its true about museums. Best advice is to go to the Europe thread on this site and pose the question or do a search for this topic - its been discussed many times there.

Marnie -

I read the responses you received on the European board. At least as of this moment, NOBODY was mean to you. "John Wayne" told you exactly what you needed to know, and was just trying to be cute. While people on that board can be harsh, this certainly wasn't an example of it. People on this board get equally worked up over minutia but on top of that, can't laugh about anything.

Hi Marnie,

I know that in all the mosques (not churches or cathedrals where yoiu can wear anything) you MUST take off your shoes. I believe men wear socks and women stockings, panty hose or socks.

I really did not pay that much attention to others since my family and I wear socks. Can someone else help here?

Paul

Don't even THINK about going into the vatican set of churches (yep the famouse ones) with shorts or sandals.

I've worm open toed shoes (i.e. sandles) into many churches in Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Malta, and Monte Carlo. Never encountered a problem.

Now big hair . . . that is another matter ; )

How embarassing . . . I meant to say "worn" not worm!!!!!

Marnie and Rita,

Just a remembrance: monks wear sandals. You should be careful however, about wearing sleveless or too short tops or blouses, or with too low necklines.

Shorts aren't welcome in churches either, so, the best thing is wearing those pants with zipers, so that you can remove the lower part of them as soon as you leave the church. Or, wear a pareo over it, so it looks like a skirt.

Good luck,

S
