Getting to stingray city in Grand Cayman

Hello; a co-worker has a CCL port stop in GC and wants to get to stingray city from the port. What is available there? Can he just get a cab?
Thanks!
Larry

Stingray City is in the middle of the North Sound, so you have to take a boat to get there. You can either buy an excursion from the ship or arrange it separately. The boats that take snorkelers and divers out into North Sound leave from a dock that's very close to where cruise ship tenders drop passengers off in George Town. No need to take a cab anywhere, but thousands of passengers arriving at one time mean that all the boats can fill up on cruise-ship days, especially in the morning.

Thanks Doug. I think I'll recommend that he prearrange a tour either with the ship or a private company.

Most people recommend Captain Marvin. However, there are several companies including Red Sail Sports and Sotos. There is usually 2 to 3 snorkel stops before they go to Sting Ray City.

Grand Cayman on-line has several recommendations:

Also, GC is a tender port, so it can take awhile to get off the ship. He should plan the time for their excursion accordingly.

Actually, I should have emphasized the fact that Grand Cayman is a tender port as well. It's an important consideration, especially if you are scheduling a morning trip on your own. Those big ships take a long time to tender everyone ashore, and people on ship-sponsored excursions always get priority.

Good to know. My friend just told me however that his ship does NOT go to GC. :D

Keeping it in mind anyway. :-)
